While more than 20 SUSC students qualified for nationals at state competition, PBL Secretary Teresa Taylor said only 14 were planning to attend the national conference. PBL President Michael Flinspach said the club itself has raised $1,200 to help pay transportation, registration, and hotel costs. He added that PBL will sponsor fundraisers later in the quarter to raise additional revenue. PBL's request is larger than senate's remaining funds for spring quarter as Sen. Kent Gordon reported earlier in the meeting that the account contained $937.57. The bill was circled and posted, and discussion resumes today. Academic Vice President Marni Madsen discussed the SUSC administration's attempt to establish a campus-wid- e computer network. The effort, she said, will require up to 150 new computer stations at a cost of $438,000. Project funding would come in part from collecting a universally charged computer use fee from students. SUSC is the only public college in the state not collecting a quarterly computer fee, said Madsen. The 0 fee increase and plans to administration is considering a have half of the computer clusters in place by fall quarter, she said. The issue will be discussed in an upcoming meeting of the Board of Regents. The Challenge Club's bill requesting $968 was reduced to $200 and passed by the senate. The money will reimburse employees who have been reading for visually impaired students on campus. The remaining $768 requested by the club can be petitioned from next year's budget, said Sen. Todd May. Madsen addressed the issue of whether the senate could alot funds to academic departments. She said she could find no rules prohibiting such allotment. While senators traditionally give money to campus clubs, not college departments, Student Activities Director Tony Pellegrini encouraged senators to search independently for needed improvements at SUSC. "Leave your mark on the school," he said. "You know what's going on out $1-1- there." Students' request for $500, presented last week, will be discussed during the next senate session. al FAST, EXPERT ENGRAVING 58S-34S- 4 ENGRAVING SHOP 586-752- 6 152 NORTH LI AIN CEDAR CITY Student wins state award SUSC student Daniel Hulet is the winner of the Utah Vocational Excellence Award for post secondary agriculture.
