Faculty elect officers A new slate of officers was announced this week by the SU5C Faculty Senate to conduct activities of the 1986-8organization during the school vear. Alan R. Hamlin, an associate professor of business, will lead the governing body which represents SUSCs 140 faculty members in various areas of curriculum and faculty-relatepolicy making. Other officers are Don C. Reid, an assistant professor of education, as president-elect- , and Patricia Paystrup, an instructor of communication, as secretary treasurer. Each of SUSCs four academic schools selects representatives for membership in the organization, and officers are selected by senate members themselves, Reid said. Thomas Challis is the senator at large. tradition of A rhe faculty senate is the awarding of the prestigious Faculty Senate Scholarship, this and year presented to German major Jan Groszer. long-standin- g pre-me- d Emeriti create $2,400 scholarship through Trash and Treasures SUSC Emeriti recently presented the college with $2,400 to establish a permanent scholarship endowment with money earned through fund-raiser- The organization of retired faculty and staff members hope to eventually raise $8,000 for the scholarship fund, according to Emeriti President Wilmer Anderson who led a delegation of Emeriti officers in presenting the endowment check to SUSC President Gerald R Sherratt. Hes already started working on his goal by committing $5,000 to Project Image through the schools fund balance. Bailey said the money will go toward making commercials and promoting SUSC as an mstituion; however, Bailey said, none of the money will be taken from student fees. We feel this is a necessary thing to support, he said. Next year well have different commercials and w'ell put forth some of the students ideas. I know our image has been a real problem in the past, he Tioject Image and the commercials will make my diploma more valuable, as well as my fellow students diplomas. It would be great if we could get better jobs because our image has improved. Bailey said that hes had people who arent familar wuth SUSC as an institution ask him if all those commercials SUSC is putting out are really true. Its very rewarding when 1 can give them the long list of all the plusses and benefits SUSC has to offer. When I can tell them that the commercials are true and that SUSC really is a great school, it makes me proud to be a student here, he said. said |
