Rex Michie is the director of SUSCs Placement Office and of the graduate interview program. GIP program aids students in finding employment Many students at SUSC are fully aware of the Graduate Interview Project and its advantages, said GIP student representitive Kelly Holman. The GIP funds student and faculty visits to 1 1 of the western states providing them with the opportunity to observe various graduate schools and employer facilities for future placement. Our main purpose is to let these people know that were interested in them, wed like to spark their interest, said Holman. The GIP is a joint project between student government and the Placement Office, said Rex Michie, director of the office. Our project improves placement opportunities for those students who want to go on to graduate school or are seeking employment opportunities. According to a recent memorandum sent out by the SUSC Graduate Interview Project, the purpose of these school funded trips is to identify potential employment opportunities for graduating students, provide information for curriculum development, acquaint employers with SUSC and obtain information for students relative to employer not needs. Moreover, the project pays for the cost of a motor-poo- l vehicle (or a personal vehicle at standard reimbursement rates) and lodging to a maximum of $50 a person each day for faculty and student visits to employer facilities or graduate schools within the 1 1 western states. Those students who want to set up an interview should submit a written proposal, said Michie. Priority will be given to those whose funding requests propose joint visits by faculty and students. We havent restricted anyone to the project, any student who is currently enrolled at SUSC during the trip can qualify, he added. According to the memorandum, proposals are prioritized and funding allocated to those projects that appear to have the potential of yielding the greatest return in relation to cost. A preliminary screening will be done on May 20, said Michie, to allow planning for the trips which occur prior to the beginning of Fall Quarter. We'll weigh the different proposals against each other. The ones with the greatest potential will benefit, he said. ii In Renaissance Square. 566 Souti Main Street Cedar City Utah, 84720.
