Beeley Director Editorial Comment Nobody In Washington these days seems daring enough even to think in terms of solutions. They think only of "adjusting" themselves to the statis-qu- o. . This is not so with the rank and file of America's citizens. The expediency policy, the ap-peasing, the statis-qu- o scramble of both parties has convinced us that neither of the major parties has a . penny's worth of determination to correct our multi-billio- n dollar problems. Rather, it's billions for more blunders and not one cent for correction. Things have to get really ; bad, however, before ordinary . citizens will see eye-to-e- ye and - demand a change through a concerted effort at the polls. But those of us who are distres-sed over the sinking of both at once-gre- at political parties into the cesspool of socialism ; can take heart. jj On all levels of government f there is going to be great J "scratching" of ballots. This general interest in men who V will espouse the real issues is l encouraging. For Utahn's, this year, it is not going to be "my party, right or wrong, but mv tjartv" 4 nt M. r - Never has there been so much interest by so many prominent 5 citizens as is being displayed in these last few days of this : campaign. Whatever the size of the vote, it looks like a whopping start toward seriously contending socialism. To express ourselves ,cor. rectly it will be necessary for us to know how to mark a ballot correctly. Let's take the time and make the effort to ) learn how to do this accurately so that our well-thought-o- ut I efforts to express ourselves will ." not go to waste. If we do this there will be some election surprises that will let Congress know that, as in other places in the nation, Utah is up on its political toes peeking over the Washington secrecy fence and we don't like what we ; see Tel. Facilities Modernized At Bryce Canyon Work began this - week ' on a $50,000 telephone exchange at Bryce Canyon will be the beginning of construction on a new dial telephone building. New seven digit telephone numbers beginning with the prefix TErrace 4. will be as-- , signed to all customers in the new exchange. Postmaster Announces Xmas Mailing Date Postmaster D. R. Trevithick . announced today that the period between November 1st and November 20th 1958 has been designated for ' the mail- - ing of Christmas parcels, Christmas cards and letters to members of our Armed Forces overseas. The Postmaster explained that the tearm "Armed Forces overseas" includes personnel of the Armed Forces, members of their families, and authorized United States civilians employed overseas who receive their mail through an APO number. Those of you who are plan-ning to send Christmas gifts in addition to your Christmas cards and letters should check at the Post Office regarding size and weight limitations and best methods of packing your gifts for overseas delivery, The Postmaster ; pointed out that boxes should contain suf-ficient cushioning" material so that the contents will be tightly packed to prevent any rattling or loosening of articles within ' the package. Unless completly packed and tightly filled, the boxes are likely to be crushed. A slip showing list of contents and addressee, should be inclosed in every box or package. To certain APO's and NPO's a Customs Declaration on Form 2966 or 2976-- A must be completed by the sender. There are some prohibitive articles that cannot be sent overseas, including matches and 'lighter fluid. Cigarettes, other tobacco products( and coffee are prohibited in parcels addressed to certain military post offices. It's a good idea to check with the Post Office before purchasing or packing any overseas gifts. Domestic rates of postage are applicable, and all postage must be fully prepaid. Parcel Post rates take the zone rate from the Post Office where mailed to the Post Office through which the parcel is addressed. Air Mail weighing not to exceed 8 ounces is charge, able at the rate of 7 cents per ounce, and articles weighing over 8 ounces are chargeable at the rate of 80 cents a pound.- - Bel sure your addresses are legible and complete, and they should always be clearly writ-ten, or better yet typewritten.
