It is all right to run up and down this state and all around this county prating about our activities in our Capitol hun-dreds of miles away. But the record speaks for itself. Just how long people will continue to put up with this type of political shenanigan remains to be seen. How long, under the guise of political expediency, must we compromise all historic or-thod- ox Constitutional beliefs for the sake of a shakey en internationalism? How long must right Join hands with wrong? How long must truth lie down for error? How long must law-abidi- ng citizens fraternize with gangsters ? How long must good co-exi- st with evil? Sound thinking citizens are rallying to the realization that politicians should be true rep-resentatives of the people who. are unalterably opposed to the encroachments of Federalism in all its forms. The federal government cannot handle the projected programs before it without loss of our freedoms. Now, it may seem to some that we have been talking candidates. We have not, we have been talking issues. And if there is someone who will Vepresdnt traditional Con-stitutional Americanism we are for him and hope you are to. Editorial Comment Politics is very much with us once again. It's a good thing, at least for a few weeks we are awakened to the needs of our Republic. The sorry part of it all is that it is only during these few weeks that we pay much attention to the way the country is drifting due to ur apathy during the bal, ance of the time between elections. ' Drifting, did we say? Yes! We answer. Alien ideologies are under-niinin- g our Constitutional form of government. Executive agreements . and treaties with other nations have robbed rights from American citizens. Federal courts are depriving states of their Constitutional rights. Our taxes are being , used to support foreign governments. Every citizen- - has lost - the right to run his own business. Over 700 government-ru- n businesses compete with free enterprise.". ' GATT, a state department fostered agency, has put many an American laboring man out of work due to the agreements . it has made with foreign nations which allow their goods, manufactured at exceedingly low - costs, to enter America and undersell us. One has but to read the Congressional Record to find in detail substantiation for these statements. Inasmuch as both parties have tried to outdo each other in .bringing these things upon us what then can the ordinary man do? Not only what can he do( but what should he do? Vote a party ticket? Be loyal Committee Acts To Thwart Legal Gambling In vigorous opposition to the pending legislation to legalize pari-mutu- el gambling in the state of Utah, is a committee headed by the Reverend Roland A. Smith of the Highland Baptist Church. Acting on the committee are vice chairmani Reverend Nicholas Vogelzang; pastor of the Christian Reform Church, and secretary Roger Fruend, director of the Y.M.CA--. " These men have enlisted a committee of more than a dozen other people who are interested, and they invite organizations to join them in leaders of religious and civic . their campaign. , t The group met for breakfast at HarmanV N. Temple re-staurant for breakfast Wed-nesday. Purpose of the meeting was to discuss the proposed ammendment to the state constitution which will allow betting on horse races in Utah. RESOLUTION ON PARI-MUTUE-L GAMBLING. WHEREAS it is generally known that gambling brings into the community an un-desirable element of people who contribute to the moral breakdown, and WHEREAS legislation of gambling may be a step toward corruption of public officials and law enforcement, and gambling brings no release of WHEREAS legalization of responsibility on the taxpayer, nor lessens his share on the tax roll, and WHEREAS gambling in all its purpose has always in every high moral and ethical code been condemned as contributing to moral delinquency, and WHEREAS certain citizens of our state hjnve succeded in placing on the ballot for the next general election" a proposal that pari-mutu- el gambling be allowed at race tracks placing in jeopardy the cleanness and honesty with which sporting events should be operated, BE IT RESOLVED that this group of Christian leaders do and hereby declare their un-relenting opposition to the proposal to legalize gambling, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all religious and civic oVganfzations be uisted in publicizing the attitude of this resolution and joining in an effort to defeat the gamblers at the polls at the next general election in this effort which is of such vital importance to honest government, clean law enforcement, and moral develop-ment of the community, and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that candidates for election to office be questioned as to their stand on this issue and that their statements be published for the benefit of the public. If you're ng a boy's room, choose sturdy blue jean denim . bedspreads and matching cafe curtains.
