Show PAGE SIX SUGAR HOUSE, UTAH THURSDAY SEPTEMBER 17, 1959 INDEPENDENT stricken with tuberculosis after the World Series last fall' Hol-bro- ok said. "Because Red's TB was discovered early, in less than a year Jie is completing recovery and is again traveling with the Braves. Utahns can take a lesson from that. "Unfortunately, in Utah most people do not detect their TB in it' 9 early stages. Three out of four new cases of TB are dis covered in an advanced stage of the disease. Their recovery takes longer. We have a long way to go in the battle against TB. Through the Schoendienst story, .we will reach people who may never have realized that TB can and does strike anyone, and that every-one needs an X-r- ay or tuberculin I test each year to detect the dis- - I ease early." f , I "Red" Heads T. B. Red Schoendienst, Milwaukee Braves star now completing his recovery from tuberculosis, has been named National Honorary Chairman of the 1959 Christmas Seal Campaign, according to Ward C. Holbrook, chairman of the lo-cal State 'unit. A standing-roo- m -- only crowd of nearly 200 supporters and only one dissenter of the petition from Magna, attended the hearing which was held in the Governor's board room at the State Capitol. When the new system is placed in service the present 10 cent toll charge on calls to Kearns and the 15 cent charge on calls to Salt Lake will be eliminated. On calls to Bountiful, Murray-Midva- le and Holladay numbers, a message unit charge will apply to Magna customers. This policy is consistent with present charges for calls to non-adjac- ent central offices within the metropolitan service area. The number of telephones that may be called on a local basis will be increased to 128,00,0 from 2, 900 approximate-ly. Rates for local service in Magna will be changed to corres-pond with local rates paid in other communities now receiving met-ropolitan service. Ray Critchell, Utah Com-mercial Engineer for the Tele-phone Company, pointed out the extension of metropolitan service to Magna would cost in excess of $400,000. It is anticipated the project will be completed by the latter part of June in 1960. |
