Boat Marathon On Utah Rivers Sunday Boating history will be made in Utah on June 15, when hundreds of motor-drive- n craft will make a thrilling run thru spectacular canyons down the Green River, and then 68 mile3 up the Colorado to Moab, Utah. Spectators as well as parti-cipants in this great boating marathon will receive a thrill as they view the race from such unusual vantage places as spectacular Dead Horse Point or the riverside geyser located on the banks of the Green River, a few miles south of the town of Green River. Or view-ers can see the boats cross the finish line at scenic Moab. Through most of the 196 miles of the marathon, the rivers are entrenched between colored, eroded rock walls that tower from 400 to 2000 feet above the water. Contrasted with the brown and red tones of the rock is the luxuriant green vegeta-tion of the river bottoms, where adventurous cattlemen graze their cattle and haul them to town on outboard - powered barges. Full information may be obtained from the Chambers of Commerce at Green River and Moab, Utah. East Mill Creek Lions Report The work on the Picnic Shelter has been under way this past month and it is shaping up well. They are pour-ing the concrete slab on it, that means it will be useable for the 4th of July. The next job is getting the shelter part up and it will be available for parties. June 12 is the date of our next club meeting and new officer will be installed. This will be a fine affair and mem bers are encouraged to bring their wives, as this is a joint meeting. Remember Thursday, June 12th at Harmons. The plans for the 4 th of July Celebration are being pushed hard in order to make this the most successful yet held. Lee Cannon is the chairman. The Chuck Wagon Breakfast is planned at 6 a.m.; the parade, prizes, booths and concessions are being prepared and the publicity is already going out. All club members are urged to put forth their best efforts to make this a great success. |
