Mr. and Mrs. Carl Dahlberg, 30S5 South 2300 East receivcJ a very welcome surprise as they sat down to their Memorial Day dinner. Their son, Re; walked in the door on a thrco day pass from Fort Ord, California, Calif-ornia, lie spent the week enl with them. Rex will be leaving soon for an eighteen month j tour of over-seas duty. Karen Rice, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert D. Clayton, 24-55 24-55 East 3225 South, 'is recuperating recuper-ating at home after an eye operation op-eration at St. Mark's Hospital on Monday, May 26. She returned re-turned home June 2. Janice Reese, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. D. Reese, 2438 East 2900 South, is recovering from a broken foot. She had a minor collision with a couch in her living room. The M.I.A. of the Garden Height's South Ward had an outing at Saratoga on Wednesday, Wed-nesday, June 11. After swimming, swim-ming, the girls fixed a dinner for all the men of the ward. The Garden Height's Sou'.h ward is having a Show-B-Q on Friday, June 13. This will feature a movie and a barbecue barbe-cue to raise money for the Woodland Recreation Area. Canyon Rim Dy Linda Bird The Explorer scouts of the Rosecrcst Ward received an invitation in-vitation recently to participate in the Navy Buddy Program. Under this program a group of scouts, for a very low cost, can visit a Naval base and see the Navy in action. After accepting the offer, the Explorers boarded a Navy plane and proceeded to their goal of San Francisco. Upon arriving, they were escorted to the A aval Ease in San Francisco Fran-cisco Bay at Treasure Island. They were very fortunate because be-cause the new officer's quarters quar-ters on the base had just been completed, and they were set up in these quarters. There was a separate room with a adjoining bath for each boy. The boys toured the city on the evening of their arrival. They visited China Town, ' Fisherman's Warf, and other places of interest. The next morning they had the good fortune of touring San Francisco Bay aboard the S. S. Naifch. a destroyer escort. They were taken thru the entire ship and a guide explained ex-plained the various features to them. After an exciting two and a half day trip, the boys again boarded the navy plane and returned to Salt Lake City. Leaders of the trip were Clyde Collett, 2109 East 3225 South and Leland J. Davis, 2532 Lambourne Ave. Boys participating were: Jack Dahl-berg, Dahl-berg, 3085 So. 2300 East; David Towers, 2385 Lambourne Ave.; Barry Topham, 2476 E. 3080 South; Tim O'Reiley, 2582 E. 3080 South; Bill Knudson, 2321 East 3225 South; Philip Arlt, 2334 Lambourne Ave.; Sheryl Porter, 3102 South 2600 East; Wallace Hoffman, 2430 East 30S0 South; and Larry Still-man, Still-man, 3220 So. Wasatch Blvd. The home of Deone Leavitt, 2430 Lambourne Ave. was the scene of a surprise going-away party for Kenneth Lane. Ken is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Dickson, 2429 E. 3225 So. It was held on Friday, May 30. There were about 36 teenagers there from all over |
