Show sudden passing of mrs Cal mittie sitton the sudden passing from this life of mrs Cal mittie sitton well known to many folks in monticello blanding and dove creek came as a shock to the members of lier her family and their many friends for the past year mrs sitton seemed to be in much better I 1 health health than in previous time and she was active in her usual helpful way until a week before her passing in the durango hospital ion on friday february 9 on saturday feb 3 she enter twined at a dinner party in honor of her grandson robert who was returning to camp after an extended furlough and she seemed in the best of health at that time I 1 I 1 on sunday she was stricken ill and was removed to the durango hospital on monday for observation and medical care although it was not until thursday that her condition caused alarm she passed away quietly qu betly and peacefully on I 1 friday funeral services were held in i the dove creek baptist church on sunday afternoon and were attended by a great host of her own friends and friends of the family some of whom came from j distant points the services were in charge of rev angulus hull who paid tribute to mrs sitton for f or her long life of service e in her own community and elsewhere he called attention to the establishment of the baptist church years ago as result of the work of five dove t creek doraen women including mrs sitton and spoke of her interest in the church ever since burial was made in the dove creek cemetery Cal mittie george was born in oregon county missouri october 31 1870 she was united in holy matrimony to willard sitton july continued on page four sudden passing continued on page 8 24 1892 to this union were were born six children noel willard george harvey davie oro fendoll arthur grace and margaret pern fern grace died when four days old mittie sitton gave her heart to bcd when only a young girl and lived a devoted christian life she was a charter member of therom the community baptist church of dove creek she taught school in mil ai before her marriage and too aup educational work again after her move to dove creek in february 1921 she was also county superintendent in of schools in dolores county for some time she was preceded in death by her husband and one child mittie sitton passed quietly away in the mercy hospital of durango feb 9 1945 at p m she was 74 years three months and eight days old she leaves to mourn her passing five children noel sitton of monticello ti utah george sitton of I 1 blanding utah davie hays of delta colo cilo fendoll of dove creek colo and margaret rich of dove creek n nineteen inet t grandchildren one great sa s1 4 child one sister davie pay f alamosa alamona and one brother arthur thompson of cahone cabone colo also a host of trends frends and distant relatives her life was a living testimony as expressed in the following verse based on the psalm jehovah is my light and my salvation near who shall my soul affright I 1 or raise my soul in fear while god my strength my life sustains secure from fear my soul remains |
