By JOHN J. M GRAW. (Manager, New York Giants.; SAN ANTONIO. Texas, March 23. While baseball clubs are training all through the south and southwest to battle each other during the summer, with the usual squabbles, it has recently dawned on me and most of our players, as well as the Senators and other clubs near the border, just what a happy thing baseball has been for our country. We have Just been over into Mex ico, visiting right in one of the states mixed up in the revolution, and it is easy to- understand just- why the United States government and the army have done everything possible for the encouragement of sport in this country. If Mexico had a professional game like baseball, through which all the cities could be brought In contact with each other, I am sure it would end much of the troubles those people have suffered. MONDAY - -- I Chad-bourn- An-tel- es LONDON, March 23.-- The boxing game is looking up here of late. George McDonald and his syndicate are getting ready for a big opening and expect to stage their first I big show the middle of May. They expect to have Phil Scott. British heavyweight champion, against one of the leading American contenders. It is also planned to get a crack American middleweight against Alex Ireland, champion of Great Britain, . . in a championship mach, and may . place 4t on the same card with Soott . and whoever is selected to meet him, j which would also be a title match. Quite a number of critics appear surprised at Len Harvey's comparatively easy victory over Frank Moody and much is made of Harvey conceding the light heavyweight champion about eight pounds, but they forget that Moody took on the Job at less than a week's notice and was obviously far from fit. Of course, it was a stylish performance that Harvey ac complished and he won like a real champion. He never gave Moody a chance to connect with a decent middleweight that punch and the beats Harvey will be a great boxer. This victory of Harvey's puts him amongst the leading contenders for world's title honors. Mickey Waliter showed in his fight here with Tommy Milllgan that he is -... i dasrf "fighter "tmtf trobMy would beat Harvey if the latter fixed up with the world's title holder now. There were a couple of surprises In the preliminaries to the Harvey-Moofight. First and foremost was the defeat of the British bantam champion. Kid Pattendeh. in a ro with Ned Tarleton of Liverpool. The latter dominated the picture throughout four times dropping the title holder for counts, and in the end won the decision by a mile. The weight being fixed at two pounds above the tlUe limit, Pattenden has only lost prestige. There is a possibility of the British flyweight title being fought for shortly, as Ernie J arris has apparently found a supporter with more money than brains to put up 12.500 as side bet for a championship bout with Johnny Hill.
