Show WVOMING. If tlio Australian ballot system works, as is said like ft charm, then the men that are counting the ballots in Wyoming work like snails. Although tho election was held two days ago, the returns at the time of this writing aro so meagre as to render any accurate summary dinicult. Thero Is, however, scarcely a doubt but what the now stato redeemed its pledge given to congress, and elected a republican congressman, a majority of state ofllcers and of the legislature, the latter assuriug the election of two United Stales senators, of whom Delegate Dele-gate Carey will be one. Although the margin is close it is suilicient to justify the classification classifi-cation of Wyoming as a safe republican state in a national election, elec-tion, for tho contest this week was a preliminary skirmish waged mainly on national issues. Thero wee no factions in cither party and the result is therefore there-fore a pretty accurate test of party strength. It is probable that this Issue of Tiik Timks will coutain full returns from Wyoming and to make comparison compar-ison practicable we give herewith the vote of preceding elections." In 1884 the republican majority for dolpgate to congress was sixteen hundred and thirty-nine, in a total vote of twelve thousand eight hundred and eleven. Two years later tho democrats let the election go by default, and .in 1888 the republicans increased their majority to twenty-eight hundred and ninety-four, ninety-four, out of a tolalof eightoen thousand votes east. |
