The Dorsetshire Dorset-shire women have set their liny feet sharply down on an effort to introduce Mormon'doctrines into their midst. During the week an American missionary mis-sionary named Morton took a cottage at Slierboth, a town in that county, lie at once commenced a series of services in accordance with the rites of the Mormon church, of which he is a member. mem-ber. 'j h ; meetings were very largely attended at-tended by the people in the district, and among them was a grocer's porter named Gander. Ho was especially zealous, and he was always offering to take his friends to the service. He is a married man and his enthusiasm enthusi-asm for tho doctrines of Mormonism did not find favor iu the sight of Mrs. Gander, who tried in vain to get him to desist from his atteniton. Persuasion being of no use, Mrs. Gander had recourse to strategy. She assembled tho neighbors, especially those ladies who like herself had husbands hus-bands who were attracted by tho missionary mis-sionary and suggested a plan of action. It was agreed to accordingly. They started out and collected a crowd of 200 men and boys, who followed fol-lowed them to tho meeting house. J hey went in in au orderly manner, under the leadership of the Mrs. Gander, ho f.aw her husband in one of the liont rows near the preacher. Immediately she gave a signal ami they rushed on the grocer s por er drawing him into the street, together witli several females who wero known to be as enthusiastic ns himself. In spite of their entreaties to beallowed to go home, they were compelled lo ma oh the streets at the head of this lit le armv, which had armed i self with sticks, and in lieu of a band had brouchtout tin trays, cowhorns and vvhi'tles. They escorted Gander to his home ami cheered, loudly when 1,1s wife, having let him in, closed the door. |
