Two shots were lirod at a o'clock ami the men at once went to work to clear away the rock ami ore which had been brought down. As the hole tu which they were working was quite small thev were compelled to kneel and were in this position at 4:110 w hen the accident occurred. The force of the explosion had loosened a quantity of ore immediately above them, and this suddenly 'fell almost burying tho two men under its weight. Their cries at once attracted the other workmen to the scene, and after much difficulty they were taken oul of the mine. An express wagon was sum-moned and they were removed to I heir hoines. The men are till working steadily, but there has been a great deal of fallen wreck-age eneouiiieretl. It was decided to at-tempt an entrance through another lead. It i barely possible that the men are still alive, as i he tl raft last night, suddenly increased, which can only be accounted for by either a fall of rock of the nieu digging to meet the rescuers. The town was wild with excitement last night. About si v o'clock tho res-cuing party heard, coming through the wall ol coal ami slate on which they were working, a faint sound oft repeat-ed, which was unmistakably that of a miner's pick. Tim news spread like wild lire to tho surface and thence through the village. 1 it a short time a thousand men, wonieu and children were crowded abouttheeuirance of the mine. Meanwhile the rescuers set to work with renewed vigor. Only two men at a time can work in the passage where they are. and these aro being con-stantly relieved.
