Show 1 TM SALT LAKE PULSE By Bob Hicks While the shouting scarcely dies in the air and the millions everywhere can barely catch their breath, the s new administration adminis-tration begins its tenure in the White House. There can be no question that President Kennedy has begun his term amidst an acclaim of goodwill from friend and foe alike. Showing himself a man of action, ac-tion, such as the country needs in this hour, Kennedy ordered more and better food for the depressed de-pressed areas, where for some time there has been a neglect for those who suffer from the malady mal-ady of chronic unemployment, still following the same lines the chief executive has sent a note to Premier Khrushchev expressing express-ing the willingness of this country coun-try to negotiate for the ending of the cold war. This latter move is in keeping with the statement made in the inaugural address: "We must never fear to negotiate." In the opinion of this writer, this is a masterpiece worthy of Lincoln and will rank alongside Gettysburg Gettys-burg address. It shows again that Mr. Kennedy is taking his re sponsibility seriously. The problems facing us in the age of the New Frontier are multitudinous: 1) Communism is still attacking attack-ing on all fronts. The new nations na-tions of Africa are coming under Kremlin scrutiny as Khrushchev plots a new era of colonialism, this time with a hammer and sickle label. Cuba and Berlin remain sore spots on the globe. 2) Unemployment at home remains re-mains a major worry. When more than five per cent of the population popula-tion is out of work, there is a definite cause for alarm. 3) Education still needs a lift. Classroom construction lags behind be-hind schedule and salaries for teachers are still not attractive to the really great minds. 4) Underdeveloped areas are causing a blight over the nation. More action is needed soon. 5) A host of other problems still challenge us as we move towards new frontiers. The years ahead need every fiber of our strength, for Kennedy Ken-nedy has said .it will not be easy. We move ahead as we strengthen our resolution to remain free and strong. i ' |
