Show FINE SHOWING ON THE WOLVERINE the wolverine mining company with property reaching to near the summit of the mountains on which it is situated has a group of eight claims and its tunnels are about one mile south of the payette light power companas comp anys plant on the payette river at an angle of about twenty two degrees above the river the electric lines of the power company pass directly over the property of this company and would be easy to tap for use in mining and milling were I 1 it not so close that it would be more satisfactory and cheaper to run a direct line carrying volts from the power plant to the mine which has already been under consideration H B williams an assayer and chemist who has taken the B S and E M courses in the illinois fate sity is president and manager in charge of the development work now in progress which has cut a four foot ledge of high values at about one hundred feet in the upper tunnel which was abandoned after proving the ground and a lower tunnel driven to cut the ledge at greater depth there are now in the neighborhood of 1000 feet of tunneling and drifting in this property and the company has selected a site for a longer arid and deeper tunnel still lower down as a working tunnel through which to extract the ore and feed it into a mill on the river the mine and mill to be connected either with a gravity or an aerial tramway the wolverine property is richly endowed with at least six well defined veins which measure from one to five or six feet in width on the surface and which carry values chiefly in silver gold and lead the ores being a sulphide and susceptible to easy treatment by the concentrating method the ores carry values of from 8 to 10 per ton mine run some of the ore shows both ruby and silver and assays essays have been had which run as high as ounces of silver a large volume of the shipping ore running from 50 to 80 on an average besides the six fissure veins mentioned there are in the near neighborhood of a dozen porphyry dikes cutting the whole of the ground of this company which is granite country rock the dikes are not continuous however but break and form again this company has not made as many surface improvements as some other companies preferring to make the best possible showing in actual development of its ground and yet it has an assay office and laboratory finely equipped as well as the usual building structures required for a property working the number of men this Q A A IA 01 1 1 the wolverine mine company is the present working tunnel has ha cut two veins one being a two foot vein carrying values in lead 4 per cent copper 4 per cent silver 80 ounces it is now in several hundred feet and is supplied with a suction blast for air purification ti on both the upper and lower tunnels yield ore which has an average value mine min run of about 8 to 10 mr williams the efficient manager was formerly a utahn and was superintendent of the clear creek coal mines of the P V coal company he is also president of the company of which C H williams of streator ills is secretary and treasurer and these with george dewitt of pearl john H davey of baker city and 0 B ryan of streator ills comprising the directorate |
