Show WEST TINTIC ACTIVITY the recent rich strike in the bertha mine in west tintic gintic district has resulted in a great deal of interest being centered in this old but prolific camp of late and present indications would predicate that it will not be long now before every hillside and canyon in this section will present a scene of activity such as will recall the early days in the history of this ancient district when the old scotia and other mines were producing heavily and sending ore oe of exceptionally high grade to the salt lake market the bertha as mentioned in the last issue of the mining review is located between the scotia and the orient mine the scotia has been idle for several years the orient on the contrary was actively worked last season and when operations were discontinued for the winter it was learned that an eight inch streak was exposed in the upraise from the southwest drift from the foot level average assays essays from which showed metallic values of per cent lead ounces silver and 60 cents in gold to the ton work was resumed a few days ago in the development of the orient and the superintendent has just sent judge 0 W powers samples of the casing to the vein above mentioned it has always been supposed that this casing was barren and one may well imagine the surprise of the judge when fire tests disclosed values of 33 per cent lead and 22 ounces of silver to the ton the importance of the discovery being augmented by the fact that the casing a talcy dalcy substance is twenty two inches in width several inches of it going as high as 42 per cent lead and ounces in silver to the ton the pay mineral found in the casing of the vein together with the eight inches of high grade ore makes this a proposition which should and would cause any mining man to feel that he was possessed of the making of a paying mine this is the way judge powers feels and during the present season the orient will be extensively developed it being the intention to follow the ore above mentioned in the upraise to continue the drift towards the new strike in the bertha and also to continue sinking from the foot level in the shaft at present the deepest workings in the mine and the review is informed that it is more than likely that power drills will be installed before the season is much further advanced it is quite likely also that work will soon be resumed in the operation of the old scotia by hon W F james of this city while a number of old producers and promising prospects in this locality will be operated this year |
