Show the mines of OA s cherry creeks creek staff correspondence cherry creek nevada july 11 A great many entertain the opinion that this camp is included in what is known as the deep creek country mining men who make their homes here vigorously object to such a classification and prefer to have it understood that they are no more a part of deep creek than is bingham or in utah they belong they declare to a separate and distinct district of their own where gold exists in abundance and therefore strictly speaking it is a gold camp and the classes of ore found in one camp are entirely unlike those found in the other hence the grounds for the distinction disappointment is expressed in camp because the glasgow western exploration company owner of the star mine has not resumed operations after the shutdown shut down cov ering a period of about two years but the hope is held out that scenes of activity will be inaugurated before tb the e present presen t year comes to a close while nothing has been given out as definite it would seem that there might be as the saying is something in the wind as the company is expending considerable money in re timbering the shaft and making some other improvements about the premises the star is known to be a very rich mine mine it contains large bodies of ore of a good gratte graae a ready already blocked ready for the milling plant with which the property is well att equipped the mine is capable of producing puan steadily and the mystery is why the company compan y does not operate it aud and reap profits ts there from rather than let it lay dormant and continue to run up a bill of expense to the shareholders all of which acts as a detriment to the camp lucid between onan the years 1877 and 1883 the mine mi produced on an average per month and when the property was known as the merrimac it produced S for a man named charles cha kinney ki the sum 1 of 00 OO 0 ess another misfortune for the camp was in the north mountain mining milling company x in the district distri dt to t he west of cherry creek wh ich closed operations some months a ago although asa perfectly p able to make profits W S brown manager of the mine who visited the camp lately stated that the north mountain was not tr active for no other reason than that those who comprise the company have interests elsewhere that command their attention therefore the vacation will be only temporary how soon the resumption ris will take place however is not announced notwithstanding the tunes noted other el operators are proceeding on is their way all of which tends to r give en coura gement P H cannon is pushing develop ment work in the old imperial A mine just aaros s the canyon from the famous chequer exchequer Es prop pron erty which in the palmy days of silver pay paid to its fortunate for owners several million dollars mr cannon is opening two up ledl ledges lles on the old imperial is following the ore and is ex acting tracking tr some high grade material which is being sacked for shipment mr cannon expects to install a new hoist on the property shortly the teacup recognized as one of the best mines in the camp is to resume shortly it has a good producing 0 record and will un make a further good account of itself it has a shaft down to the depth of feet the mary ann and pacific located not far from the teacup mine owned by a chinaman named charley wah is showing up well under development william C rose and associates are also operating the wide ride west with good success and announce that they have the property in condition for a small milling plant out in the Coco mongo go district william lawler is working the gold nugget and is taking out a good class of pay ore W A watson is also operating in the same vicinity and good progress is being made by franks and olson on the combination group nearby the little johnny claim owned by 31 mcaulay a prominent merchant of cherry creek B R collins T G davis and B F harrison is being developed by a tunnel which has reached the length of seventy feet and good pay ore is being extracted this property was purchased by the present owners f from rom the locators on may 1 ast 1st st last who took out in ore from the property and treated it at the star custom mill the ore averaging from to per ton the olympia group of five claims located in gold canyon is on a producing basis and the owners are treating some ore at the star mill that contains values of 70 to per ton or better the olympia has been developed but to a small extent yet it will be readily seen that from the ore that is going to the mill it is a pretty healthful looking proposition at the present time The chemin minei is owned by hans olson a well known know n merchant of cherry creek J A Carl carlson sont proprietor of the livery stable here and several others A C house who conducts ithe meat business in the camp is also interested in coco mongo which is a district of great promise aa the present time |
