Show An Ancient Institution. -Through the courtesy of Capt. A. A. Folsom, tho gentlemanly superintendent of the Boston & Providenco Railroad, we are in receipt of the proceedings of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company Com-pany of Boston, Mass., on its 231st and 232nd anniversaries in June,lSG9 and 1S70. This Company was organized organ-ized nearly 233 years ago, and every year since, except four years when suppressed by the Colonial Government under Sir Edmond Andros, and eleven years during the war of the revolution, has celebrated its anniversary with appropriate ap-propriate ceremonies, consisting of a parade on the common, listening to a sermon in the Old South Church, and a dinner at Faneuil Hall, accompanied by toasts, speeches and sentiments from prominent citizens of the Comiuon-wea'th; Comiuon-wea'th; winding up with a drum-head election of officers, for the ensuing year. It is ;omewhat remarkable that amidst all the changes which our country has undergone, the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company maintains its organization, organ-ization, a pleasant memento of the olden time. |
