Show Quick Time for Mails. The velocity with which the mails travel through this Territory is more than astonishing, it is startlingly wonderful. It beats the Paris balloon post, and is nearly equal in speed to the old ox-team ox-team that used to convey slow freight across the plains. Mr. Dunbar, of the Herald, mailed a letter for this office before he left Logan on his way to this city. He only got here last Saturday Satur-day night, but the letter actually arrived ar-rived yesterdsy. It had positively been carried at the rate of twelve miles a day, and about two thirds of the distance by rail! As the letter contained, among other matters, a list of subscribers who would have been vainly waiting for their papers and laying lay-ing the blame on us, had Mr. Dunbar not returned at the time he did, we can all the better appreciate the quick time made in carrying it, We always knew the introduction of railways would expedite business transactions. Time was when it took a letter two days to come from Logan hete, but now it can bo brought just as safely in seven days. The improvement is worth chronicling several times. Utah mail matters are a huge affair. We have just heard of another case which boats ours. A lady mailed a letter at Portage, Malad Valley, and four or five days afterwards started for this city. She got here in due course, arriving two weeks ago lost Tuesday, and the letter announcing her coming was received here last Wednesday just two weeks and a day alfcr her arrival. ar-rival. Boat that, if you can. now, you mail carriers elsewhere. |
