Show Passing Through. Wc had a brief visit yesterday from General Charles A. Washburne, late minister of the United States to Paraguay, and ex-Governor Alven Flanders, formerly of Washington Territory. General Washburne was seven yoars and a half absent from this country in his ministerial minis-terial capacity, though it took fourteen month of the time to reach Paraguay from New York, in consequence of the difficulties he experienced in getting through the blockade instituted by the allies. Like his brother, Minister Washburne, now in France, it was his fortune to be minister to a country waging a long and bitter war against a powerful enemy. Thus is his first trip across the continent by the overland railroad, and he will doubtless tbiqk it one of the greatest of the many greHt changes that have taken place in the country since he left it in tU to eccu-py eccu-py the position of a foreign minister. Governor Flanders vacated the guber, tutorial chair of Washington Territory last summer. |
