President W C Lyman of the Constellation Con-stellation waS in the city today and examined that property The drift for the vein is now about 160 feet from the shaft It is expected that it will be reached in two hundred feet COPPER AfT LA PI Revival of Interest in the Properties Proper-ties of This Rich Camp The camp of La Plata about twenty or twentyfive miles northeast of Ogden II Og-den which is one of the most promising promis-ing undeveloped districts in the state is attracting considerable attention just I now in mining circles and it i the opinion of experienced mining men f that in this locality some of the richest mines in Utah will yet be found La Plat is one of the most promising promis-ing grassroot camps ever found in the west and at ane time immediately after it discovery was in a most flourishing condition but the of ishing thE greed a grasping railroad corporation soon after af-ter cuse the closing down of the pr during mines and a cessation of the development de-velopment of prospects throughout the district Several years of litigation did not help t boom the camp in the least and although the suits were decided in favor of the mineral clqfonanits sometime I some-time ago it was not until this summer I that active work in the mines there I were resumed resume The Ogden Press nr SDeaJdng of L Pluta says Since the last mention of the La Plata country in these columns lings have been pushing right along there until at present nsvrly every mine and pros poet is being worked and new locations loca-tions are being made nearly every day and the district is fast taking on the air of a lively mining camp II THE SUNDOWN AND LA PLATA Mr Miles has taken a lease on the j I Sundown and La Plata and soon after I I getting things in shape for working I the La PIn t he struck a big vein of I rich copper oxide on the Sundown Asa As-a consequence he dropped the La Plat and has been putting in J his time on the latter He is now sacking the j Sundown copper ore which averages 48 per cent for shipment He expects to I increase the force a fast a the development de-velopment will allow and there is no question but what he has a mighty fine proposition The Sundown is the I original trict or first location of the dis tic NEW STATE GROUP On the same side of the gulch as the Sundown a fine strike of copper oxide I was made last week on the Primrose south of the Sundown on the same side I I of the gulch and this property was at once bought by the New State people i IOn the Isabelle which is also Included i in the New State vein of tho Ne Sbie group a copper I S cop-per oxide has been uncovered which rivals that on the Sundown and the i Primrose and that is also being de I veloped for all i is worth The New I State group now comprises the Reno 21 Rosa Portland Isabelle Nevada I Romeo and Virginia all of which are I located on the copper belt which seems to underlie the south side of the gulch j THE SUNRISE 1 The Sunrise lies north of the sundown Sun-down on the La Plata side of the gulch and like the latter and all the properties proper-ties on that side is a lead proposition I Carpenter Weber and Rich have secured secur-ed control of this mine and are working work-ing it for the velvet They expect to be shipping ore within a week and believe they have a mighty good thing LITIGATION ENDED The senseless litigation between the owners of the La Plata and the Sunrise Sun-rise properties which first brought woe to the camp has been amicably settled and there is now no reason why i should not push steadily ahead to the I front row of winners in the mining industry in-dustry of Utah The Red Jacket property which lies I east of the Sundown and across the gulch consists of four claims and is one of the best and biggest lead l propositions I proposi-tions in the La Plata district or in the I j I I state for that matter The owners are J I getltfing together on a proposition to 1 start operations again and it is exported ex-ported that a force will be set to work next week TIXTIC MIXING DISTRICT Items of Interest Coiled From the ColnnuiH of the Miner The new owners of the Elmer Ray are cleaning out the old shaft and will soon be ready to commence the development I devel-opment of the ground A considerable showing of lead ore I running through the pyrites is made I in the drift started from the bottom of I the Blue Bird shaft at the 225 level I The steam hoist formerly on the Eureka j Eu-reka Consolidated is being erected on i the Opex group this week and a soon as it is in position the work on that a poson wore property greater vigor will be pushed with still S Nicholas and Joseph Treloar have leased the Sioux mine and Dan Mc Leod has made similar arrangements with the Utah This Insures the continuation con-tinuation of the work on both properties proper-ties and a there is large bodies of ore in sight the leasers ought to make a good thing out of them Joseph Dedrich the well known Mammoth contractor left last Monday Mon-day for the Blue mountains to super intend the erection of the Gold Queen mill In conversation wth the Miner coersaton te ma Mr Dedrich spoke in most glow ing terms of that district and predicts for it a great future The Shoebridge Bonanza company has struck a two foot vein ofgx > od ore in the bottom of the old shaft which they have just finished cleaning out A little ore was encountered in the shaft all the way down and the present pres-ent showing looks like a big thing This property will soon be on the shipping ship-ping list A good wagon road is t be built at once from the North Star and Boss Twe into Mammoth and we are advised ad-vised that the contract for same has already been let for 700 This road will have the effect of taking the output out-put from these properties by way of Mammoth which with a good road will be the most convenient point The North Star company is grading out for a new shaft and will commence sinking in a few days The new shait will be a good working double compartment com-partment perpendicular shaft and will tap the ola workings of the mine which were developed by inclines Anew A-new hoist for the North Star is also a certainty In the very near future The new whim was placed in position on the Kappies ground Sunday and hoisting commenced E N Jenkins who is working the property advises us that they have an eight inch streak of fine galena ore and that they will be ready to make carload Jady a two shipment ship-ment in about three weeks The Kap pies ground joins the old Park mine and < s regarded as one o the most promising properties in the Silver City end of the district We are advised that the Grand Central Cen-tral company will at once let a contract con-tract for staking a new well on the Grand Central No 3 millsite which lies northeast of Eureka adjoining the Paxman millsite While the Grand Central company has plenty of water for immediate use they propose to secure enough now by the development of their water rights to guarantee a adequae future supply as their opera tons may require Scarcity of water is causing considerable i consid-erable anxiety both at the Eureka Hill and BullionBeck mills An BulonBek mis average of only about 40 stamps can be run at I the Eureka Hill and it is currently reported re-ported that It will be necessary to layoff lay-off one shift at the Beck although we are unable to positively verify the report re-port Both companies are industriously industrious-ly prospecting at Homansville and we understand a daily improvement i noticeable Manager J W Green of the Buckeye advises us that he has made a new ore strike on the 200 level of that property Assays of the ore show values of 88 ounces silver 65 per cent lead and 13 gold Manager Green also states that he will be able to send out a good shipment ship-ment of highgrade ore in a few days As to the rumor of a contemplated assessment as-sessment on Buckeye stock he states that so < a as he knows no such action is contemplated by the board of directors I direct-ors The shaft on the Boss Tweed is now down 150 feet from the tunnel level 225 feet from the surface The shaft h followed the vein all the way dbwn the vein at the bottom being from three to four feet wide aid have taken out 200 tons of ore which is now on the dump A R Holcomb who is In charge cf the mine states than they will drift on the veto and block out the shipments ore preparatory to commencing regular Jesse Knight advises us that a new tunnel to tap die vein o the Humbug was commenced Wednesday morning j The new tunnel is about 400 feet north of the old one and will be about 500 feet long and will tap the vein 125 feet below the present level In the meantime mean-time the work on the wagon road and the widening o the present tunnel is being pushed a rapidly a possible and it is expected that shipments from the property will commence in two or three weeks Director Ryan of the Ajax company I advises us that the proposed mill for that company is a sure go He states I that they are now engaged in takinG samples o all the different grades and characters of ore in the mine and that different lots aggregating several hundred hun-dred tons will be run through the Sioux mill to determine as t then adaptability adapt-ability to that process of milling The mill run will commence tomorrow Mr Ryan also states that most satisfactory progress is being made in the great SiouxAjax tunnel The extremely low price of lead and the resulting order for closing down the Mingo smelter at Sandy took effect in Tintic this week by the practical shutdown shut-down of the Sioux and Utah mines which took place on Monday Only about ten men are now employed in the two mines and we are advised that ten te-n l will stop running a soon as the run on Ajax ore is completed We are unable to hear of any other companies who propose to follow the exaimpfe of the Sioux and Utah but the fear is gen eral tat others may be forced to dose Shipments from the district for the week axe a follows From the Bullion Beck mine twentyfive carloads ore from the BullionBeck mill five carloads loads informed I in-formed that a foot vein of highgrade ore was sitruck in the Blue Bird yesterday yes-terday afternoon The Rue Bird lies in the vicInity of such wellknown producers pro-ducers a the Joe Bowers Butcher Boy Showers and Morning Glory and we have no doubt will develop into a rich regular shipper S DISCOVERED Ittr ACCIDENT A Proiiiisiiisr Prospect Ponnil AVltile Hniitiiisr Chickens John Jones of this city according to his usual custom shouldered his gun one day this week and crossed the valley val-ley into the mountains of West Mountain Moun-tain mining district on his annual chicken hunt Mr Jones met with good sport in the canyons and on the mountain sides but this did not deter him from keeping keep-ing an eye open for anything else he might come acm and in hs perambulations peram-bulations he found what he considered as a very promising piece of float and he at once began to look for the ledge but go where he would he could not find I and at last he resolved to investigate in-vestigate more carefully the spot where he first had picked up the mineral bearing float S This he did and in scraping away the soil with his foot he disclosed an eighteeninch ledge of mineral bearing rock and with stone he broke off i of a I sackful of the ore and brought it with j him to this city I Assays were made of the mineral I yesterday and It was found to carry small values In gold and silver and i while the results f the test did not I i cause any great excitement 1r enthu I i siam they were sufficient to lead to the belief that the ledge would bear prospecting and i i the intention to sink a tenfoot hole to determine if the values will increase with depth The ore is an oxidized iron and is ago a-go looker and although I has probably prob-ably been well leached at the surface i ft < indications point to a good body of ore at no great depth WORKING T AURORA Another Big Piece of Gold Float Fomul in Horse Heaven Joe Moses the wellknown mining operator returned the first of the week from Marysvale where he has been developing valuable mining claims owned own-ed by the Aurora Gold Mining Mill ing company of this city The Aurora group is located in what Is known as Horse Heaven and is a I south extension of the Dalton property Since Mr Moses began operations in the spring he has driven a 100foot tunnel tun-nel on a strong and welldeflnedi vein As work progressed the size of the ledge increased as well a the values and when Mr Mosss left for this city the face of the tunnel was in four feet I of ore that carried average values of 34 ton ounces silver and 1 in gold to the tonThe The officers of the company are highly S pleased over the showing and It is the intention t push work as rapidly as possible as all indications go to show the near presence of a great body of ore in the Aurora prroun Horse Heaven is noted for the rich float found within its environments t For a number of years pieces of float I have been picked up there that were rich in precious metals Five or sis I years ag a piece of float as large as a S mans head was found there that was lousy with gold and a few days ago according ac-cording to Mr Moses a similar chunk was found in a gulch betweenthe Aurora Au-rora and Eagle properties that fairly glistened with the yellow metal and I from which assays were obtainedrang ing from 20000 to 48000 in gold to the ton This float undoubtedly comes from Dalton mountain and it cannot be a great while now before the lodge will be found from whence i came and when this is done Marysvale can boast of one of the richest gold mines in the west The Grow Mining Company For the past month the Grow Mining company has been hard at work in the development of its group of claims in Kessiers canyon in West Mountain mining min-ing district the work being directed In the driving of a incline tunnel in the Rand lode After running thirty feet the tunnel cut I a tenfoot ledge that assays 520 in gold to the ten I is the Intention however to continue the tunnel until the main vein is encountered when it Is expected that greater values will be found The company is employing a force of five men and arrangements are being made to carry on the work all winter Sam Calder and other Salt Lakers are developing a promising property on the Grow ledge about three miles north of Bingham Mercur Mercury Notes The drill Is
