Show In the Senate I WASHINGTON D C Dec 15The Senate met at 10 oclock this morning Morgan gave notice that ho would call up Dolphs resolution respecting the abridgement of the right of suffrage tomorrow morning The first bill on the calendar was the one enlarging the rights of homesteaders ou public lands Passed I provides that when parties have settled opposite unsur veyed lands and therefore were obliged to take up less than 160 acres they may extend ex-tend their holdings not to exceed 160 acres The bill subjecting oleomargerine to the operation of state laws the Paddock pure food bill and the Conger pure lard bill haying hay-ing como up in their order were laid aside and the Senate proceeded to the consideration considera-tion of the election bill Colquitt of Georgia Wilson of Maryland and Vance of North Carolina spoke at some length against the election elec-tion bill At the close of Vances speech the vicepresident announced the question to be on Grays amendment to strike out the house to house clause A vote was not reached however Butler spoke in support of the amendment amend-ment ho had suggested several days ago providing that supervisors canvasers and other election officers shall be regarded as ministerial end not judicial officers Hoar opposed the amendment and a long debate ensued Before it ended the Senate Sen-ate went into executive session and soon adjourned fa Senator Sanders today introduced a bill to amend the silver coinage law and BUG BU-G thorize the secretary of the treasury to purchase the silver bullion offered at a price not exceeding SI for 37125 grains of pure silver and to issue treasury notes in payment thereof |
