Show Sidewalks. The meeting called yesterday at the City Hall, to consider the nature of improvements proposed to be made in the side walks on East Temple St., for two and a half blocks, beginning at 3rd South St., and running run-ning north, was attended by between thirty and forty property occupiers and owners from the section specified, and a delegation from the City Council. Coun-cil. The meeting was called to order by Recorder Campbell, and on motion of Warren Hussy, Esq., Hon. Wm. Jennings was elected Chairman, R. Campbell, E'q., being elected secretary on motion of T. F. Tracy, Eq. The object of the meeting having been stated by the Chairman, the Recorder red the ordinance, passed Nov. 20th, IS6S, under which it was convened. Following this came an animated discussion on the merits and dements of the various kinds of material suggested to be used, such as plank, gravel, brick, flagging, &e. ; and a number of motions were made. Finally the motion to improve the sidewalks side-walks in the section indicated, by a uniform grade of fine gravel, was carried car-ried with but two dissentient votes. As this expresses the mind of the majority we have nothing to say concerning it, ouly to hope that the work will be pushed to completion with rapidity. And we would suggest that one of the first places attended to be the crossing between the bank of Hooper, Eldredge and Co. and the Exchange Buildings. That could bear flagging. |
