Show Co - operation in Erigham City. "S. J. J.," who accompanied Prest.. Young and party to Brigham City last Saturday, iu an account of tbe trip, part of which we have already published, writes as follows : Their eo-operative store is doing a good business, and is the only store they have there. 15i.-hop Nichols told me that it was started under rather unfavorable circumstances. Prest. Snow, Bishop Nichols and Judge Smith were the only shareholders to commence the institution; but the people peo-ple soon realized what was to their benefit, and to-day the shareholders number over a hundred. I visited the store, and to judge by appearances, it is very ably conducted. They have a well selected stock of tfoods on ban, which is all paid for; occupy their on buildings, an i ae no, iu Jested to anybody outside out-side the corporatio . Seeing a large amount cf rags I asked, "D you also buy ruga?" wheu the bishop siid, 'We take everything that we cau turn. Many of oar boys bave got their school books for rags tl at ttiey bave gather d up and brought hero." I also nnders'and that their tannery end s'.o-i business is conducted conduct-ed on the co op?ra ive painciple, and they are aleo Luibling a woolen factory fac-tory on tin sime priu io'e; ao that "by end by, tot only Ibe whole of the mercantile business wi 1 be in the hunt's of the people-, but they wi 1 be self-EU-ticing- i i every way. The people of Brigham city seem to excel in their singing. Bro. 1-ish-burn deserves the most unqualified praise for his efforts in training and bringing into harmony the voice3 of the vocalists of the city, and the leaders lead-ers of the different choirs in our settlements, settle-ments, would do well iu trying to imitate him and try to infuse the i-oui of the composition into their choirs. |
