This has proved one of their greatest successes. The action ac-tion of the drama occurs in France and Egypt. The latter part of the fourth act ends with a remarkable tableau. The Sultan having by treachery obtained possession pos-session of the French commander and his friends, endeavors to obtain from him information as to the strength of the French fortifications.. The French colonel col-onel indignantly spurns the life offered him, and, just as an attack is about to be made upon him, the French soldiers begin to bombard the walls. The Sultan, determined not to be baffled, orders his guards to fire upon the captives, but, as they aim their guns, the Arab girl, Am-ineh, Am-ineh, in love with one of the captives, snatches a dagger and stands over the Sultan prepared to kill . him when the murder takes place. The noise of artillery artil-lery without redoubles, the wall of the palace falls in, and amid flames and smoke the French soldiers are seen on the ramparts. , |
