In the First District Court, to-day Jack j Hays entered a plea ; of . not guilty to the charge of attempt at rape. ;D..M. Stuart, i who had pleaded guilty, for unlawful cohabitation, co-habitation, will be .. sentenced January 4th. C. W. Hemenway will also be sentenced sen-tenced on January 4th for libel. Hank Wheeler withdrew his plea of not guilty to the charge of grand larceny and en-r tered . one of guilty. The Judge fixed January 4th for the time of sentence. ' In the way of amusements here we will have a great many during the holidays, in dances-, a mask ball and attractions at the skating rink.- -. The-Ogden 'Brass Band will try and outshine everything, in the w ay of a ball on December 31st at t he Union Opera House. ; The "Pleasant Hours" Club organized last Thursday evening to give a series of dances during the coming winter. They give their opening party Tuesday evening, December 22d, " and it promises to be the grandest club party of the season. The management is in the hands of the young men, and. they are. doing their utmost to try and have the best social club in Ogden . At the rink last evening the attraction was a foot-race between Williams, of Pittsburg, and Carter, of Omaha, for $20 a side. Williams rwas to run 14, laps, while Carter ran 13. Williams won in 24 minutes. - The distance was a half mile. The rink here is running to full houses now under the management of C. B. Blanchard. He has built up the rink to perfection, and now a visitor can go there and pass a very pleasant evening, which he could not do before. Mr. Blanchard does all in his power to make his rink popular and please his patrons, and in this way he has the reputation of the best rink in the Territory. He will be assisted here next week and after by Professor Naws, the champion fancy skater of the Pacific Coast. So the people of Ogden have a treat in the way of witnessing some very fine fancy skating. The streets presented a very lively appearance ap-pearance here to-day, and the business men are all having a very good trade, which makes them happy and wish that Christmas would come more than once a year. -.t ! |
