Show Opera by American Talent. New Yobk, January 4. In spite of the heavy downpour of rain, the Academy of Music was crowded to-night by prominent and fashionable people to listen to the first production of American opera. The work ohosen was "The Taming of the Shrew." The orchestra was led by Theodore Thomas. The verdiot seems to be that the presentation presenta-tion was fairly successful and merited the approval which it secured toward the close. There was an American ballet, which was probably the least successful. |
