The name, Inland Empire Exposition, was suggested to signify an exhibition showing the progress and development of the great Inland Empire, and the people who have transformed a barren desert into a great and prosperous commonwealth. In 1S47 the great expanse of territory west of the Rocky mountains was a vast desert. Inhabited only by Indians and wild animals. The pioneers who blazed the trail across the mountains laid the foundation of a great empire. President J. G. McDonald and his associates have planned for many months to make the big fair one long to be remembered. Many features entirely new will be introduced this year. Tbe year 1909 baa been an exceptionally prosperous one with Utah farmers, and requests for apace from agriculturists alone would tax the capacity of every building on the grounds. Tbe mining men have tak- 'eiT'hoM "or tiie affair 'with great enthusiasm, and plana have just been completed for the erection of a huge mountains which will contain the workings of a. thoroughly equipped mine. Gus Poulsen, man of many businesses and trades, has at last gone into the poultry business. This business, like all others, has Its drawbacks, owing to the price of corn meal being so high. After days of hard study and many nights of sleepless worry, Gus bit upon the following scheme: He mixed the corn meal with sawdust. The chicks ate it. Next day he gave them straight sawdust and apparently the chickens did fine until one of the hens setting on thirteen eggs started to present Gus with more chickens. The hen had twelve chickens with wooden legs and the hoodoo thin teenth chicken turned out to be a woodpecker. . COLISION. The woman had considerable trading to do, and while her attention wan diverted the little fellow disappeared. A thorough search of the surroundings wax made by the anxious parent and villagers, but without avail until accident revealed the chtld'a location. The disappearance occurred near an atore, whose proprietor, having an order for three gallons of cream, but being short of receptacles, had ulf lined a six gallon freezer in which to deliver the goods. This had been standing outside, and when the time came for Its delivery a slight rustling inside attracted attention, and upon lifting the cover, there, comfortably seated in the interior, was the lost child, his face giving evidence that he hud been having a "busy time.''
