August 3. 1988 The Gunnison Valley News v -- Accent on People - Family of Melvin Taylor celebrate 80th birthday The fam ily members of Mel vin H. Taylor, Mayfield met on Saturday, July 30, 1988 in the Nephi Park to celebrate his 80th birthday. He was bom July 25, 1908 in Loa, Utah to Isaac Harvey and Julia Ada Potter Taylor. He married Blanch Jackson on October 21, 1932. They are the Neilo, parents of 6 children. Woodscross; Lynn, (deceased); Vcrla Smith, Bountiful, and Ardella Peterson, Gunnison. They have 24 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Melvin has 5 brothers: Vaughn, Ward, Veral, Roland, (all deceased), Oren TAylor, Loa; two sisters: Zona Riddle and May Brown (both deceased). Randy Burr receives U of U SK' Janet Beck and Gary J. Hoffman to wed Joann Reed and Rodney Nay to Wed Dr. Randy Burr received his medical school diploma in ceremonies at the University of Utah on May 21, 1988. He graduated with the ho nor of Alpha Omega Alpha, given only to those in the top ten percent of the class. He is currently employed as an intern at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City. Son of Dwaine and Ver-ly- n Burr of Salina. Dr. Burr served a mission to Tokyo, Japan, attended Brigham Young University from 1981 to 1984 and then completed four years of medical school. Jodi Marshall Burr, Dr. Burrs wife, has worked as a Junior High School teacher during the last five years of Randys education. They appreciate and thank their relatives and friends for all their support and Joann Reed , Rodney Nay will be married Sevier Valley Tech in Richfield, Utah. He is employed at Gunnison Implement Company. Joann was a 1988 graduate of Richfield High School, and has been studying Cosmetology while attending Sevier Valley Tech. The couple will make their home in Centerfield. All friends and family are invited to attend a reception to be held in their honor, Saturday evening August 13, 1988 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Richfield 3rd Ward Chapel 985 South 400 West in Richfield. Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Nay of Gunnison are pleased to announce the forthcoming marriage of their son Rodney nay, to Joann Reed Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gene Reed of Richfield, Utah. Rodney and Joann will be married Saturday, August 13, 1988 at the Richfield 3rd Ward Chapel. Rodney was a 1983 graduate of Gunnison Valley High School where he was active in Vocational Education and FFA. Entries are limited to not painting, which includes, but is limited to tempera, encaustic or other wet media on canvas, fabric, paper or panels. Sculpture is defined as non functional three dimensional works, using carving, modeling or assembly techniques. Gaylen C. Larsen was appointed President of Utah Bank and Trust, on July 1, 1988. Mr. Larsen is a seasoned and bank administrator in the State of Utah. He most recently was Executive Vice president and Chief Operating Officer of valley Bank and Trust, and was with Valley Bank for 27 years. Prior to that he was employed by First Security Bank of California. His father, Charles Larsen, was also a banker for 40 years. Mr. Larsen graduated from North Sevier High School, Snow College, BYU in accounting, Pacific Coast School of Banking and other banking schools. He and his wife, Jan, a professional business woman herself, are parents of three children, and have three grandchildren. There is no entry fee, and entrants are limited to a total of three. After receiving his education , he married Nora Nelson, now deceased. They moved to Safina where he was to become a Bishop, Mayor, andconductoroftheTownBand. He is still spry and enjoys visiting and reminiscing about his fife in Safina. He remembers when his six children were small, he occasionally had to lead the marching band with a baton in his right hand and one of his small children cradled in his arms. Those six children, all former Salina residents ate: Collin Peterson and Mclla Wilkinson, Beaverton, OR; Bcrdclla Hicks, Aloha, Oregon; Thcron Peterson, Seattle, WA; Dolly Jensen, Phoenix, AZ; and Evelyn Wallis, San Francisco. For thirty five Mr. Peterson played the role of Santa in Sevier county and Multnomah county Oregon. He was the official Old St. Nick for the Safeway Stores Employees children; wards, stakes, hospitals and retirement homes. No child could resist his jolly ho, ho, ho. He was so convincing in his red plush suit and silky white beard that two of his nieces, Lyal Ashman, Redmond, and Mclva Johnson, Aurora, thought for years that he really was Santa, and they felt very special on Christmas Eve when he came to their home to give them a goodnight kiss.
