Show televisioini specieBs "THE UNDECLARED WAR Since the end of World War II there have been 79 cases of overt hostilities around the world involving guns, soldiers. and casualties. All have international implications. But none are called wars. They are called revolts, presences, police actions, interventions, riots, rebellions. This new and strange form of Armageddon will be examined on the color special, "The Undeclared War, to be presented by NBC News Wednesday, June 15, 9 P.M. on Channel 2. full-hou- r The program will look closely at the paradox that seems to bring in military action on the heels of civic revolt. This happens almost inevitably, Yates says, "because when the people converge upon their rulers to demand improvement, violence results, and what may begin as peaceful protest soon develops into military action. Yates adds, "from the Caribbean to Southeast Asia, three Communist countries in particular the Soviet Union, Communist China and Cuba are at work trying to undermine societies as termites do. a wooden house. For Communists the most fruitful fields for these wars of liberation are the underdeveloped countries of Latin America, Africa and Asia. Their obvious and openly declared aim is to encourage either violent or passive revolutions against governments and ruling classes which they label as imperialistic, colonialist, feudal, capitalist, or fascist." The special will focus attention upon the dangerous ferment in key South American nations Colombia, Panama, Peru and Guatemala; the incursions of guerrilla bands, Communist-led- , in Guatemala; in Panama, at the School of the Americas, where Latin Americans are trained in the unconventional tactics of the undeclared war, and in the troubled areas of Peru.
