Show I FOR WOMEN ONLY CHARGE IT Control Camera With Speed Film by Mike Edwards One of the problems facing the owner of a box camera is the lack of any control over the functions of the camera aside from releasing the shutter and winding the film. When necessary, though, it is possible to get around some of the limitations of a box camera. Be cautioned, how- ever, that the results obtained by the following methods might not be the best. But often the quality of a picture must be sacrificed in order to obtain some sort of record of the fleeting moment Last week we alluded to the use of various films. A word of further explanation would be helpful. The usual film available to box camera owners is either film Kodak Verichrome-Pa- n Pan or the Ansco film. However, there are many other films made by these companies ( and other companies also ), designed for various uses. And these other films often are quite different in their sensitivity to light. the sensitivity of a film to light is usually referred to as the speed of the film. For example, the usual box camera film has a 'speed designated by the number 125. The modern box camera is designed to use a film with a 125 speed. Some of the older cameras are designed for a film with a speed of 50, possibly 80. Often the photographer does not have enough light available for taking a picture. When this occurs, he can use a flash attachment to provide additional light, or a bright light like those used for home movies. if these are not However, available, he may use a film with a greater sensitivity to light. For the box camera owner (and, unfortunately, only for the owners of a box camera taking size 120 film) the Kodak Tri-- X film is available. The Tri-- X film has a speed of 400 and is therefore roughly 3 times as sensitive to light as the film with a speed of 125. So if you are in a situation where only about 13 or 14 the proper amount of light appears, ta be available, the use of this more sensitive film may give, you a little CWA Holds Conference Mrs. Winnifred E. It has drawn all blueprints for major recent gains in wages, fringe benefits and working conditions for the more than 400,000 workers represented by Hie union. The upcoming sessions are important for a reason, Mrs Burton said. All around the nation, and in Canada, we are contracts ending three-ye- ar with major employers. Hie shutter speed is not sufficiently fast to stop action, and the picture the picture is taken will often reduce Hie blurr. Thus, if the picture is taken head on with the motion of the subject coming toward the camera, the motion may be stopped. (This is advisable when taking pictures of people, not autos or trains.) Or the photographer may follow the motion of the subject with his camera swinging the camera to keep the subject in the exact center of the viewfinder, releasing the shutter as you swing the camera. This results in blurred backgrounds, but reduces the blur of the subject. Usu ally, with a box camera, this method will still result in some blur of the subject, but, this is often more desirable than no subject.
