He stated : 1. In 1910 Utahs farm debt was and Utahs farm income was $61,'000, 000, but in 1936 Utahs farm debt was $44,000,000 and the income bad dropped to $51,000,000. 2. We lia vo been living on our capital. 3. We need 3 to 4 thousand now homes for young coaxpe now in rural Utah. 4. Our farm land has net increased since 1918 and onr farmi are growing rm aller . 5. We are bearing the cost period of our youth and sending them to other states during their productive age. 6. 'Water is the life blood of Utah! If all Utahs availabe water was stored and used efficiently om irrigated land o'uld be almost doubled. 7 Over irrigation kit's the needed soil bacteria and leaches away soil fertility 8. 'Farmers should know their soil types, hrav many acr inches of water to apply per irrigation and the number of acre feet of water it takes to' prod ue a maximum crop. 9. We need to clean our ditched stop leaky ditches and head gates and measure the water to various crops. 10. A. A. meeting in Salt Lake City, March 15th. In addition to these goals, national, state and county goals will be set. The national crop goal is the acreage which will produce he nations food and fiber requirements with an additional allowance for export and reserves. George E. Farrell, regional director of the western division of the AAA says. The soil depleting goals for individual farmers will indicate their share of the .national goal. Individual crop goals, as set up by the county committees, will stipulate work the amount of which farmers must do in order to qualify for payments. These goals may be reached either by the seeding and crops, maintaining of or by the carrying out of practices. In determining the soil depleting crop goal, county head will take into consideration the amount of tillable land on the farm, the normal ind. and the type and seeding of geographical layout., of the farm. Meetings to acquaint officials with the requirements of the 1938 urogram will be held in Rich "aunty during the latter part of March, according to Mr. P. H. Rex, county committee chairman. All papers for 1938-- 7 are in to the state office awaiting their turn for payment. The Rich county office is prepared to handle them "s fast as the state, farmers and the mail can return them. It is hoped that the 1937 AAA will arrive within the next two or three week to help pay for spring seed. However, no definite promise can be made as to just when the checks will arrive. soil-buildi- soil-depleti- soil-depleti- As ye sow, so shall ye reap is still as murii in effect as it was, college agronomists affirm. It is generally safer to plant high qunl',ty seed than to risk the unknown quality of imported seed. Efficient farmers are careful to buy .seed from conscientious and responsible seed growers. Extensive use of home grown seed is prevented by its scarcity. This- - condition is unfortunate since, if suffi-- . cient interest were shown, quality s?cd could 'be raised in abundant quantities in Utah to satisfy the needs of state farmers and build up a profitable and extensive seed market in other areas.
