Show "AN ENJOYABLE AFFAIR. The Magic Lantern Entertainment Given at the West Schoolhouse, Thursday Night. On Thursday evening the West schoolhouse was the scene of a highly entertaining and enjoyable affair, from the hours of 7 to 11. A magic lantern entertainment was given under un-der the direction of Prof. Walton and other teachers of the district. The house was packed with an intent and enthusiastic, though, orderly audience. The usual exhibit of stereopticon views was interspersed, or rather accompanied ac-companied with songs, recitations and instrumental music, appropriate to the subjects exhibited. So the entertainment entertain-ment part was a complete success. But the after piece "took the cake," to use a telling phrase. During the whole progress of the evening, and apparently ap-parently a considerable longer time, a number of busy little hands and heads had been at work preparing a feast (for such it was) for the teachers and their friends (that is, each of their nearest friends),and when the company had dispersed the teachers, the city superintendent and their friends aforesaid, afore-said, were "led like lambs to the slaughter" into an adjoining room, where white-covered tables, fairly reeling under their load of sweets, and surrounded with sweet smiling faces of the larger pupils of Mr. Walton's school, made a tempting picture. The teachers were tempted "and they did eat,'' and they also talked (for teachers will talk) and they likewise laughed and otherwise enjoyed themselves, to the evident delight and enjoyment of the hospitable children. The whole affair was charming, so it is said, and as the teachers say put another educational educa-tional feather in our educational Jcap. The steropticon is the property of the teachers and we learn it is the intention in-tention soon to give a series of these entertainments in the several school-houses. school-houses. Wnether there is to be a supper after each we have not learned, but at any rate let us have the entertainment. |
