The Chamber of Commerce met on Thursday night, with President R. II. Dodd in the chair. After the approval of the minutes of the lust session, the secretary reported re-ported that the Board of Directors, pursuant to the instructions of the Chamber at the last regular meeting, appointed a committee on education, as follows: E. A. Wilson (chair), Oscar B. Young, Don R. Coray, Geo. Sutherland and Ernest Eidredge. The secretary reported that on behalf be-half of the special committee on direct mail route to Heber City, that a very large petition, fully signed by citizens of Provo, had been forwarded to the Postmaster-General, at Washington, requesting the immediate establishment establish-ment of such route. W. X. Dusenberry, from the committee com-mittee on railroads, stated that Mr. Bancroft and Mr. Eccles of the Union Pacific, had visited Provo since the last meeting, that the subject of a new depot for Prov.i was fully discussed, and he felt confident that a new depot would be a realty in the near future. A. A. Noon spoke upon the subject of waterworks and water supply, and suggested that the waters of Provo should be taken from Bridal Veil Falls and not direct from Provo River, that the water of the river was at some seasons of the year unfit for use, while the waters at the Falls were always clear, sure and uncontaminated. He thought the attention of Wichiler Jones, to whom the f-anchise was granted by the city for waterworks, should be called to the matter. E. A. Wilson moved that the matter be referred to the committee on public improvements and climatic and sanitary sani-tary affairs. A general discussion followed and the motion was carried. It was moved by Mr. Iloutz that the committee to whom the subject has been referred, be instructed to ascertain ascer-tain the quantity and the quality and flow of water, and report to the Chamber. Cham-ber. President R. II. Dodd called the attention at-tention of the Chamber to the matter of uncleanliness of the city. Some of the members spoke upon the matter, and on motion it was referred to the committee on sanitary affairs. On motion the Chamber adjov ned. |
