About 130 cadets participated in the exercises which were designed to test their leadership skills in stress situations. The games were organized by fourth-yea- r cadets, who will become commissioned officers this sum- mer. Third-yea- cadets participated r in the games which also prepare them for advanced leadership camps they will attend this summer at Ft. Lewis Wash. Each day was devoted to different problems and goals. Saturday, the cadets were divided into squads and were faced with 10 creating an ambush including taking Thomas Kallunki; BYU's separate problems, prisoners and surveillance. According to Lt. Col. J. military science advisor this sort of military activity was instigated in 1970 and has produced great results in preparing the cadets for their summer camp experience. iStf- ,17' f -- "r; ' X l 1 Cadets work on military skills such as artillery adjustments first aid, weapons maintenance and other real-lif- e situations. Blanks and artillery simulators are used to create a realistic atmosphere. The cadets are rotated through leadership positions so they can be judged on how well they lead and how well they follow during the games. According to Kallunki each cadet is given a written evaluation on how well he performed his tasks during the operations. Rainy weather added to the realism of the experience Saturday. We couldn't have asked for better weather " Kallunki said. wpjwrr .m i, i The cadets responded to simulated injuries and were forced to practice first-aiand evacuation measures.
