Show Funeral Rites for Amy B. Lyman Held in Salt Lake Funeral services for Mrs. Amy Brown Lyman, former native-born native-born resident of Pleasant Grove, were held Tuesday at 12:15 p.m. in the Twenty-seventh Ward Chapel, Salt Lake City. She died Jast Saturday at the age of 87 from causes incident to ag-e. Mrs. Lyman was born in Pleasant Pleas-ant Grove, Feb. 7, 1872, the daughter of John and Margaret Zimmerman Brown. She attended the local schools and the Brig-ham Brig-ham Young Academy in Provo. Mrs. Lyman was a member of the Relief Society General Board for more than 36 years .and as the general president from January, Janu-ary, 1940 to April, 1945. Her career as a General Board member was interwoven with h&r pioneering in the development of health and welfare programs through-out the Relief Societies of Utah. Under her direction the first record books for wards and stakes were adopted and the first Relief Society Handbook was formulated in 1931. She also served serv-ed as manager-editor of the Relief Re-lief Society magazine for 30 years. Mrs. Lyman was a national and world traveler in the interest of womanhood. Thrugh the medium of the National and International Councils of Women she became known to great women leadens throughout the world. On Sept. 9, 1896 she married Dr. Richard R. Lyman, a former member of the LDS Council of the Twelve and a University of Utah Professor. He was the consulting con-sulting engineer for Pleasant Grove's first water system. Surviving are her husband and daughter, Mrs. Alexander (Margaret) (Mar-garet) Schreiner and five grandchildren. |
