S -, f r THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 14, 1963 MRS. DAHLIA WALKER Mrs. Dahlia R. Walker, lifelong resident of the Pleasant Grove area, will represent the community commun-ity in the annual contest to select the 1963 "Utah Mother of the Year." The selection was made by representatives of the local federated womens clubs, Cadmus and Elysium. Mrs. Sadie Beck, past area Mother of the Year, served ser-ved as chairman. Mrs. Walker's name will be submitted to Timpanogos First District Federated Womens Clubs for consideration as District Mother of the Year next week. Mrs. Walker was born October 6, 1890 in Pleasant Grove, a daughter of Joseph A. and Hedda Victoria Anderson Radmall, and was educated in the local schools. She was employed as an operator opera-tor for the Bell Telephone Co. Battle Creek Camp, DUP Holds Meeting Friday The monthly meeting of Battle Creek Camp, Daughters of Utah Pioneers was held at the home of Mrs. Vivian Evans, on Friday, February 8th. - - An interesting 'history was given by Lucille Walker on the life of Harriet Heith Marler, who was known as Widow Marler. She was one of the first women to settle in Pleasant Grove, and her log cabin was the first one to be built here. Her husband and three children died of Chorera on the way lo Utah. She with her husband hus-band and children left Mississippi as converts to the Church. They were wealthy there and brought with them blooded stock, both horses and cattle, which did well on the lush meadow hay and grass that grew in abundance in Utah Valley. 7 Lacy White the lesson leader, gave the life 'story of three Pioneer leaders; Erastus Snow, the Apostle, Edward Hunter, the third Presiding Bishopric of the Church, and William D. Gartch-ner, Gartch-ner, an Elder V who faithfully heeded counsel. Those present were Estelle Fenton, Capt Pearl Adams, Ellen Hebertson, Cora Bezzant, Sadie Beck, Lucille Walker, Florence Pierce, Pearl West, Ida Williamson, William-son, Cleone Kirk and Florence -Tiler, as special guest. Refreshments Refresh-ments were served. Lindon 2nd to Hold Gold & Green Feb. 79 Lindon Second Ward Gold and Green Ball will be held Feb-. 19 at 8 p.m. in the new recreation hall. The theme is to be "Fascination." "Fascin-ation." The Nite Hawk orchestra will furnish the music. Floor show is set for 9 p.m. PI. Her-ald. She married Lawrence R. Walker, Walk-er, Nov. 24," 1909' in the Salt Lake Temple. They were the parents of the following 8 children: ' Grace W. Fielding, Payson; Jennie W. Murdock, Genola; Grant R., Salt Lake City; Leon R. Lindon; Lorayn W. gtoddard, Vineyard; Robert E., California; Dr. Garth L., Seattle and Utahna W. Ballard, California. During her long and useful life she has served on numerous civic projects and fund-raising drives. She has voted in every election since reaching voting age, except, once, when a baby was born. . Church organizations, in which she has served include: Sunday School, Primary, MIA, Relief Society, So-ciety, and Genealogy organizations organiza-tions on the ward and stake level. She is currently a Relief Society So-ciety visiting teacher in the Second Sec-ond Ward. ; Lindon Gold & Green Set for February 18 Lindon Ward Gold, and Green Ball is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Feb. 18.
