Show Family Honors Patriarch Thorne On 64th Birthday Hie sixty-fourth birthday anniversary anni-versary of Patriarch David B. Thorne was the occasion for a family fam-ily dinner given by Mrs. Thorne at the family home in Lindon, Sunday. Mr. Thome's parents were Robert and Cordelia Walker Thorne, pioneer pio-neer settlers of "The Basin", as upper up-per Lindon was called in earlier days. All his life has been spent in Lindon. Lin-don. As a boy he worked on his father's farm, driving oxen when only ten years old. On March 6, 1896, he married Eva Keetch, also of Lindon. Sagebrush had to be grubbed up to make a place for the small home they built. - When their two children were still very young, Mr. Thorne left to fill a mission in the southern states, returning two years later broken in health and suffering from malaria fever. When able to work again he had the misfortune mis-fortune to split his foot open, with an axe. This accident left him slightly crippled for life, but undaunted. un-daunted. Two years later he was employed at the Cullimore Mercantile, Mercan-tile, which position he held for many years. "My hobby is public service", said Mr. Thorne, and the list of his activities ac-tivities verifies the statement. He acted as ward clerk of Lindon for twenty-seven years, senior president of the 135 quorum of seventies, second sec-ond counselor in the High Priests quorum, president of the Y. M. M. I. A., bishop of Lindon ward from 1928 until 1937 when he was ordained patriarch of Timpanogos stake. In addition to these numerous church activities, he has found time to help materially in the building of the community, serving 30 years as secretary of the North Union Irrigation Irri-gation company, member of the Lindon Lin-don town board three terms, inspector inspec-tor of the water system which he was instrumental in securing, and member of the Salt Lake Milk control con-trol board. Since 1934 he has been president of the Federal Land Bank association board of Pleasant Grove. "Our finest achievement is our family, of course", said Patriarch Thorne. The following daughters and a son live at Lindon: Mrs. Al-vin Al-vin Gillman, Mrs. George Jacklin and Jesse Thorne. Another daughter, daught-er, Mrs. Alton Bigelow resides at Wallsburg. Richfield is the home of the older sons, Clinton and Milton. n |
