Show 6 THE PAYSON CHRONICLE ThumUy,' April' 30, 1970 To Engagement news Mrs. Noel (Vione) Reece of Payson will represent Nebo First District, Federated Womens Clubs, in the annual Utah Federation Club Woman of the Year" contest. Mrs. Reece is sponsored by the Junior Cultus Club in which she had been a member for some 28 years. She has served as president, secretary and reporter and has also worked on numerous club committees and has been chairman of many projects. Active in her political party, she has been Payson City Treasurer the past four years. She has been chairman of the Pay-so- n City Library Board, secretary of the Payson City Recreational Counciland secretary of the Payson Civic Club Betterment Committee. She is past president of the Payson American Legion Auxiliary Unit 48, and has also served as vice president and secretary and has held many chairmanships. Mrs. Reece is past president of the 4 American Legion Auxiliary, District and has also served as vice president and as secretary in the district. She has served four times as a state chairman for the Department of Utah, American Legion Auxiliary in the fields of Junior Activities, Legislation, Education and Scholarship and Utah State Hospital. She has been a volunteer worker at the Utah State Hospital in Provo for ten years and has served as a Pink Lady at the Payson City Hospital Mrs. Reece has served on the board of directors, Utah Girls State for some three years and as a counselor at Utah Girls State for eight years. She is an active member of the LDS church and has served as a teacher in the Payson Second Ward Primary Association and the Sunday School, as a member of the Nebo Stake Sunday School board and is at the present time MIA activity counselor in Payson Second Ward. Mr. and Mrs. Leon Beckstrom announce the engagement of their daughter, Sherie to Mr. Neal Ewell, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ewell of Genola. The wedding will be performed June 26 in the Manti Temple. There will be a reception to honor the couple that same Ward. evening in the First-Fift- h GOOD COOKS Corner Mrs. Idonna W. Crook Choose a casserole dish for dinner. Then plan to have other foods baking at the same temperature. Select a vegetable, bread andor dessert which bake at the same temperature as the casserole. Set a timer to remind you of the times various dishes must go into the oven. Then relax until your meal is ready to take from the oven, SCALLOPED CHICKEN AND POTATOES 4 medium potatoes, sliced 1 cup cooked chicken, diced 12 teaspoon salt pepper 1 can cream of mushroom soup 12 cup buttered crumbs paprika Arrange layers of potatoes and chicken in casserole dish. Sprinkle with salt and pepper. Pour soup over top. Sprinkle with buttered crumbs and paprika. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. 6 servings. BAKED BEANS WITH HAMBURGER strips bacon, cut in small pieces medium onion, chopped 1 pound ground beef 2 1 lb cans pork and beans 12 cup molasses 12 cup catsup 4 1 12 tsp. dry mustard 12 tasp. salt 1 tsp. worchestershire sauce Saute bacon and chopped onion in a pan; add and brown ground beef. Add remaining ingredients; mix. Pour into casserole or baking dish; cover. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 minutes. Garnish top with sliced tomatoes (optional) Yield: 8 servings. 1 i Lovely ceremony unites young couple The beautifully decorated cultural hall at the Nebo Stake Center was the setting for the April 18th wedding ceremony of Jeannine Provstgaard and Kent P. Jensen. The ceremony was performed by Bishop Bernell Evans. A reception given by the parents of the bride, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Provstgaard followed honoring the newlyweds. Shade tree commision holds convention The Association of Shade Tree Commissions will hold Spring Convention Wednesday May 6th at the Wilkinson Center its Room 321 (Little Theater) Brigham Young Univ. Registration is from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. with regular sessions from to 10:00 to 12:00 p.m. The morning session will be highlighted by Mr. Keith L. Davey, San Francisco, Calif., past international president. A luncheon will be at 12:00 noon. Oldest resident Star Valleys oldest resident Sarah Passey, Thayne, who just turned 96, says it takes a week to celebrate her birthday, and she once again had this privilege last week as family, friends and church organizations honored her. She turned 96 on April 10. Mrs. Passey was honored at a party given on April 9 by the Silver Star Camp, Daughter of Utah Pioneers at the home of On Sunday, April 12, a Edna Roberts. family gathering was held, with 48 members of her family attending. Many phone calls and cards were received from her family and friends. On Tuesday, April 14, the Thayne Ward Relief Society honored her at its meeting. Sarah Humpherys Passey was born April 10, 1874 at Paris, Idaho to John and Mary Ann Smith Humpherys. She lived there and received her education. She married George Passey in the Logan Temple Sept. 30, 1896. The trip was made by team and wagon, taking two days each way. The young couple lived near Paris for Humpherys In Payson The afternoon session will be held from 1:30 to 3:00 followed by a tour of the Botany garden, conducted by Dr. Bertrand Harrison, BYU Botany Dept. The officers are having a booklet published, Trees for Parks and Streets of Utah," with Prof. Ernest F. Reimschiis-s- el as contributing authority. The association urges all cities and towns to join and welcomes individual membership also. Vice-Preside- about six years before coming to Star Valley, where they took up a homestead in Thayne. The Passeys were blessed with nine children, five of whom are still living. They are : Neva (Mrs. Carl) Schramm, Payson, Utah; Delvin Passey, Thayne; Orlean Lake, Aberdeen, Idaho; Fontella Kunz, Evanston, Whyo.; and Flora Schwab, Thayne. A golden wedding anniversary was celebrated Sept. 30, 1946. They sold their ranch about 1954 and moved to town in Thayne, where they lived until Mr. Passey passed away in 1956. Mrs. Passey continued to live alone and care for herself until 1964, when she had the misfortune of breaking her hip. It then became necessary for her to make her home with her daugher Flora and family. She has always been active in the LDS Church, being a Sunday School teacher for G E N E A LS represent Nebo Large cupid statues arranged with bouquets of lavendar lilacs with a pale yellow background was the setting used for the bridal party to greet their guests. Old fashioned nosegays carried by the bridesmaids added to the lovely atmosphere. The bride carried a large nosegay with streamers holding dainty violets. The bride designed her own gown of peau de soie, lace and pearls, which was created by her mother. The high neckline, sleeves empire waist and enhanced the old fashioned atmosphere of the remaining bridal party and hall decorations. Interesting effects were achieved by the use of small tucks, lace, and seed pearls used at the hem line, hat, and sleeves of the gown. The long beaded train added to the magesty of the gown. The brides sister, Sharon Provstgaard, acted as maid of honor with bridesmaids Deena Millecam, Vickie Taylor, Jan Clay-so- n and Caren Curtis. Carlene Provstgaard, youngest sister of the bride, acted as Jr. bridesmaid with petite Jennifer Jensen acting as flower girl The grooms brother, Gary Jensen, acted as best man with another brother Dennis Jensen standing with his mother, Mrs. Harold (Melba) Jensen. Lacy white baskets of fresh lavendar hyacinths and daffodils decorated the tables where refreshments were served with the help of Lisa Riley, Susan Patten, Diana Wright, Elouise Henry, Dianna Lnn Jensen, Lisa Wilson, Leslie Grace and Annette Whitelock. Gift bearers were Karel Nelson, Denise Provstgaard and Cory Jensen. Hostess in the gift room were relatives of the bride, Mrs. Helen Burt, Marion Nelson, Mrs. Pauline Nelson, Mrs. Sandra Gant, Mrs. Judy Burt, Mrs. Lynn Burt and Dana Nelson. Mr. and Mrs. Vee J. Koyle of Salem announce the engagement and wedding plans of their daughter, VeAnn, and Tom Reece, son of Mr. and Mrs. Noel Reece of Payson. She did temple work until she broke her hip. Needle work and flowers were her main hobbies. She also enjoyed camping up Greys River and Snake River with her husband and friends. She has 23 grandchildren and 58 great grandchildren. Mrs. Passey has seen many changes from the little log house with a dirt roof and tallow candles to the modern homes with electirc lights and heat. When asked the secret of her long life, she said, "Hard work and living the Word of Wisdom." living; I W. The prospective groom graduated from Payson High School and LDS Seminary, attended two years, at State College of Southern Utah, filled a mission for the LDS Church and is presently enrolled at the BYU where he will be graduating in May. The couple plan to be married June 25 in the Manti Temple.' Seminary banquet The Payson Third Ward Primary was reorganized recently, with Carol Sue sustained as president, Karri Lynn Jackson as first counselor, and Linda Bryan as second counselor. Retiring .from these offices are Ruth Ann Burton, Helen Walker and Nancy Christensen. Marcia Nielson was retained as secretary. Dr. Gordon Taylor of the ward bishopric was in charge of the change, which was made at Sacrament meeting. Weddings our Specialty Phone 4652715 Mrs. Erma ?. Fech, Service Representative for Mountain Bell celebrated her 35th anniversary with the local telephone firm. Mrs. F ech was honored by fellow employees with a gift. Theron W. Johnson manager for Mountain Bell presented her with a pin and a watch commemorating the many years of continuous service with the telephone industry. Mrs. Fech started with Mountain Bell in September 1927 as an operator in Payson, Utah. In May of 1940 she was promoted to Contract Manager holding this position until October 1943. At this time she was promoted to Chief Operator. This position she held until December 1960, when she transferred to Spanish Fork as a Service Representative. Mr. and Mrs. Fech reside at 451 North Main, Payson. Mrs. Fech is active in social, civic and church organizations in the community. Mayor YES, We're still in business!
