Im not inferring that you should go around magnifying your good points all the time or anything like that. But, if you are always berating yourself and- - thinking that you CANT do one thing or' another before long not only you yourself but others who know you will have the same idea. If you tell a child hes a no good long enough he will end up proving the fact. But if you look at his good points and praise him for the things he does right he will learn to respect himself and to live in such a way that he has the respect of daughter of Livermore, California arrived on Thursday for a five day visit with Mr. and Mrs. Delos Tanner and family. A very successful Christmas social was jlield Saturday evening at Curts Cafe af. others. Grandpa Gilmore, a man I knew years in point. He had some bad habits , which his wife Linny didnt like one bit. She took her mothers advice and didnt nag him about them even though ( ago was a PAYSON CHRONICLE 3 Thursday, December 11, 1969 case they bothered her considerably. Instead she praisejj him when ever he did some- thing she liked and she really built him up in front of his family and friends. She wasnt being two faced or anything like that about it she just praised his good actions and ignored his bad ones. People who didnt know him very well thought he was wonderful and those who heard about his sins didnt believe them. Grandma Gilmore had him built up to be something special in every ones eyes and she really showed him how much she loved him down through the years. Before many years folks who had known him in his younger years could see that there had been a big change in Grandpa and that it was for the better. He had heard his wife give such glowing reports about himself that he didnt have the heart to disalusion her or anyone else so he just acted the part of a gentleman. So often when someone compliments us we often are prone to bring up some bad points about us to counteract the compliment. A young girl was in a group of friends and someone remarked about the lovely hair she had which was gleaming and done in a very attractive fashion. When she said that it was naturally curly the group was quick to remark how fortunate she was to be so blessed. Instead of accepting the compliments gracefully she remarked that it was good that her hair was the way she wanted it because her hands were so large and ugly. Before that I had not noticed her hands but when she held them up I silently agreed that they were unattractive and instead of thinking of her in the future as the girl with the beautiful hair I always think of her as the girl with the big hands. Sometimes we have heard something ' good about someone before we even meet them and it always seems to make our meeting start off on a good foot, while on the other hand if we have heard negative reports it may take a long time for the prejudice to wear off and for us to appreciate them for the good points they possess. If you tell yourself you cant do something such as give a talk, make a good pie, get an A in a difficult class, or one of a number of things you have lost half the battle to begin with. So, dont under-rat- e yourself, just determine that you CAN do some difficult tasks which you havent mastered yet and youll be surprised at the things you can do. Reach your own potential. Nows a good time to begin being the you that its possible to become. - wwk Dc. 10 thru 16th UlUDHJftS KM IIROED HOUSE lovely birthday party was held at the home of Mr. And Mrs. Robert E.
