that in every state in the union lone one or more persons recall the face pictured I 1 above and readily recognize it as I 1 that of one whom they knew when they I 1 lived in park city utah I 1 it would take much time and space to do justice to this old od timer in an attempt to write anything like a complete story but it would have a touch of the excitement incidental to pioneer days following his arrival irom from the east eastie and landing in echo h his IS walk f f from rom there to where he be stayed overnight 1 with george W young recently deceased and next morning resumed his hike to this city where he has lived continuously ever since he witnessed the ups and downs of mining camp life including its murders suicides jail fire hanging stabbing gambling and other incidents that naturally followed in the days clays sensations of the early locators few ew of whom are now left to vouch tor fr its wild west vest realism dick was a recognized authority on all important happenings in park city since the days of sage brush highways and ox team power transmission the subject of our write up was a carpenter by trade and has operated a sh shop ap on main street during the greater pa part rt of his 62 52 years in camp it was the ren devous for early settlers where plans were discussed and perfected prior to their heir usual effective calmin culmination a tion I 1 it if there are two sides to every ques I 1 con and an equal number to the life and habits of every man let us dwell upon the fact that no man ever held more sacred than he the sweet me memory mory of mother and his eyes it is less than a month ago he bemoaned the taking tal cing of the hymn book he prized so much by some unknown person it is question undetermined as yet as to whether or not it has merely been misplaced As to his patriotic tendencies no one questioned his devotion to the flag of his country and some few well kemem br bor the thoughtless act of a young man who reached tor for the starry banner banceri Ban nerI floating above the door of his habitation I 1 in an attempt to displace dl space it from its staff as being a sleepless night tor for dick I 1 in his desire to teach the rascal a lesi 1 son on respect tor for old glory he sat in the shade of the old shop in anticipation ci of a return visit from sundown to sunup sun up on a fourth of july night with a loaded hip pocket six resting across his knees tor for quick action it if the foolish youth did pass a r second time it was not known to dick and the object of his intentions Inte lations possibly still lives I 1 friends have noticed his tottering step during late years but he has cared lor for himself in bachelor headquarters until quite recently when a cancerous condition was detected on one ear A lew few weeks treatment in a salt lake hospital awas was resorted to but aitho without u t favorable results later a specialist w was a s consulted I 1 and satisfactory improvement improved en t had been the result one week ago last sunday he joined many others listening to miss alm letha cole i mans facture at the L D S church flay day he apparently rosa rose from bed and tell fell to the floor injuring his left hand infection followed and lie he was taken to the local hospital tor for proper care and attention but at mine a m yesterday he answered to the call of the master and joined his loved ones gone before in that spirit land beyond the vision of mortal eyes we bespeak tor for him a happy reunion re union with mother alother who was ives his guide in youth and whose memory was revered most sacredly after her demise for years he planned upon being laid beside the one who gave him birth but in later years he decided upon cremation the ashes thereof to be sent to new york for final disposition upon her grave and with this hope accomplished he ie declared that he would once more lay upon the bosom of mother and all will be well deceased has made frequent visits to the family burial ground always aiming to be there on decoration day where after placing his floral offering he would seat himself nearby and in meditation silently and alone lve live again the happy days spent nt in childhood and an d early manhood richard E squires was born in bing hampton new york august 3 1845 and died in park city march alarca 26 1931 his arrival here dates from february 23 1879 surviving him are a brother and nelce residents of worcester massachusetts who by wire this morning suggest that arrangements be made for interment in at this writing final disposition has not been
