II City land listed for sale 13 Location of city shops Park City Municipal Corporation has heard from some parties interested in purchasing city-owned land. There are potential buyers for city-owned commercial land by TERI GOMES Record editor Prime commerically zoned land owned by the Park City Municipal Corporation has been the object of a number of offers for sale or trade in the past few weeks. Last week during dur-ing its work session, the council discussed various offers it has received on the separate parcels it owns on Deer Valley, Shortline, Bonanza and Iron Horse Drives. The total land owned in the vicinity vicini-ty behind the Copper Bottom Inn includes in-cludes four different lots totaling of 2.87 arces. In the same area is another 2.7 arces of land currently not for sale but also owned by the city ci-ty for its vehicle maintanance shops. The city land on the corners of Deer Valley Drive and Shortline and Bonanza drives borders an additional addi-tional 1.6 acres owned by the Greater Park City Company. An apprasial the city had done recently places the value of all the city land (including the shop area) at $2.5 million or approximately $10 per square foot. The only firm offer the city has received to date was from Smith's Food King for $1.7 million which city officials considered too low. In addition, according to Mayor Hal Taylor, the Smith offer would have forced the city to relocate the city shops and Taylor feels there is little land available where those shops could be sucessfully relocated within the city limits. Richard Dudley and Rick Wid- dows, agents for Gump and Ayers Real Estate were present at last week's work session to discuss a proposal pro-posal to allow the city to keep the shops in place for a few years while a client of theirs got a fast food business up and running. They did not however submit a formal offer yet to the city. Two weeks ago Vivian Cropper, also an agent for Gump and Ayers presented the city with a proposal on. behalf of a developer of a youth recreational complex who wanted to trade land in the Deer Valley area for the prime commerical lots. The city, however was not interested in owning the Deer Valley property. According to Taylor, there is no rush on the city's part to sell the land. District court judges are reappointed The Utah Senate has confirmed the appointment of four new judges : Frank Noel and Michael Murphy in the Third District Court, William Thorne in the Fifth Circuit Court and Louis Tervort in Fourth District Juvenile Court. The Court Administrator's office received 100 applications for the four vacancies on the Utah Bench. Applicants Ap-plicants were required to be a member of the Utah State Bar, at least 25 years old, and a Utah resident resi-dent for three years. Fifth Circuit Court appointee William Thorne is currently a judge in Uintah and Ouray Tribal Court. He will fill the vacancy left by Judge Richard Moffat, who moved to District Court several months ago. (Fifth Circuit Court covers Salt Lake and Summit Counties.) Third District Court appointees Frank Noel and Michael Murphy will fill two vacancies one left by Presiding Judge Philip R. Fishier, who left the bench to return to private practice, and Judge Jay E. Banks, who will retire at the end of September. Noel is currently a judge in Fifth Circuit Court, and Murphy practices law with a firm in Salt Lake City. (Third District covers Tooele, Salt Lake and Summit counties.) Once confirmed, swearing-in ceremonies for the appointees are expected the first week in October. The new judges will then be up for retention election in three years. The Court Administrator's office plans to recruit shortly to fill the vacancies left by Judge Noel in Fifth Circuit, and by Judge Tervort in the Tenth Circuit. by SENA TAYLOR Record staff writer Allowing the right brain and the left brain to work together is difficult dif-ficult for most people, but the interaction in-teraction intrigues seven-year Park City resident Ann Bogdanich. She is- the director of the Educational Educa-tional Kinesiology Center in Salt Lake City. It's a new learning center that teaches people how to activate both sides of the brain by muscle response, and specializes in helping those with dyslexia, hyperactivity physical coordination and expression expres-sion through writing. , Kinesiology is the study of muscles and the science of testing and balancing them to restore equilibrium. Applied kinesiolgy uses information from muscle testing and applies it to the mind. This practice was developed by hollistic health practitioners to use the body's muscles as a built-in bio-feedback system without using drugs. "We use the Oriental acupressure zones of the body to open up the brain," said Bogdanich. Educational Educa-tional kinesiology helps unscramble brain patterns in problem people and allows the opportunity for learning learn-ing in a stress-free manner. She studied under Dr. Paul Den-nison Den-nison of Los Angeles, who has practiced prac-ticed this method for 15 years. His research revealed that most of the problem learners are right-brain dominant with a mixed or crossed dominance pattern. "Our educational system is strongly left brained and therefore, a lot of the learning disabled have been found to be right- brained dominant," domi-nant," said Bogdanich. At the EK Center, the workshops are designed to teach people how to "switch on" both brains at the same time to eliminate confusion. "We determine whether a person is right- or left-brain dominant. This lets us know whether they prefer to read by phonics or by sight; For example, ex-ample, if a person prefers to read spelling words in a column down the page instead of across the page the way we are most familiar with," she said. Bogdanich has been teaching the techniques to parents and teachers throughout the Salt Lake Valley since the center opened in November, 1885. In recent months, local school districts have begun programs using educational kinesiology. "Once the teachers and parents have tried some of the techniques themselves, or seen improvements im-provements in their children, they're almost always supportive," she said. Bogdanich gives a "Basic EK" class at the Athena Institute here in Park City. "The class teaches people peo-ple how to switch on both hemispheres of the brain at the same time to overcome learning disabilities. It's offered to people of all ages, but the earlier we have a chance to teach people how to do this, the easier it is to correct the disabilities," she said. The Athena Institute is located at 1800 Prospector Square. aymard wants a ew dog. . . I immmmi imnmAiA (1 . . .so he's using the Park Record classifieds to find one. (Plus find a new frisbee.)
