Show dDIbnttimaiipnes Barbara Jean Gillett Barbara Jean Gillett, age 54, died on Oct. 25 in Salt Lake City of cancer. She was born Jan. 5, 1930, in San Francisco, California to Ernest and Bianlad Moore Bernadie. She married Fred Walter Gillett on Sept 17, 1973 in Elko, Nevada. She was a member of the Catholic Church. A resident of Park City for nearly 20 years, she was known to residents as "Ma" said friend Darlene Dean. She helped out people with rides, money and especially food, said Dean. "She always had her finger in something." Barbara was a cook at the Alamo, the Express Company (now Griffin's) and the old Cozy Bar ( now A Horse of a Different Color ) . Barbara will be missed especially at City Park, where she spent many afternoons and evenings cheering on the local Softball teams. v According to Susie Williams of "Just Arnie's" womens Softball team, "She was our mascot. She was always there cheering us on." Teammate Lynn Brown said sometimes the team had to ask Barbara to suit up and stand in right field so the team would have enough players. ' 'When the park is finished we are hoping to install a bat rack with her name on it," Brown said. Another member of "Just Arnie's," CD. Fish added, "She meant a lot to us. She fed us while we were on the road and she was our scorekeeper. She sat in the rain down in Salt Lake several times while we played this summer." She is survived by her husband, Park City; daughter Jane Bernardini, San Francisco; step-sons Fred Lawrence Gillett and Steven Walter Gillett, both of Kamas ; and step-mother Mrs. Bernardini of Seattle, Washington . Graveside services were held Monday morning at the Park City Cemetery. |
