Jumping Team be the strongest overall con- tingent ever fielded by the United States, according to head jumping coach Ed Brisson, who announced the membership of the national team today. In the past we have had one or two exceptional individuals, but the 1975 team includes eight or nine good ski jumpers capable of placing in the top 10 in any major in- . ternational event," Brisson ment from one of the younger team members, Scott Clayton: My goals as a competitive skier are not only to make the 1976 and 1980 Olympic Teams, but to win a gold medal for myself, the ski team and my country. To accomplish this will require dedication, sacrifice and, most importantly, the enthusiasm which comes from knowing that what I'm doing is worthwhile and deserves my full effort. Team is holding day training sessions during the summer as part of Halls program to intensify the conditioning of the national team members. The first camp was held in early June at the Sports Village in Bretton Woods, N.H., and the team will return to Bretton Woods, the U.S. Nordic Team Training Center (East), from August 25th to September 5th. Because of the great depth on the team, each jumper pushes his teammates. This built-i- n competition should enable us to develop some out- individual standing medal prospects by the time we leave for the Olympics at Innsbruck, Austria, in 1976. Leading the nine A team members and four promising B team members on the 1975 U.S. Jumping Team is veteran Jerry Martin ,24, of Minneapolis, Minn. A two-tim- national champion, e Jerry was a member of the 1972 Olympic Team as well as both the 1970 and 1974 FIS Teams. In January, Martin placed fourth in a major international meet at Le Brassus, Switzerland, for the best U.S. jumping result since 1963. On Jerrys heels for team leadership is Ron Steele, 21, from Leavenworth, Wash. The top U.S. jumper at the 72 Olympics, Ron captured the 1974 U.S. National Championship title, won the 74 Samsonite Nordic Series jumping title and placed ninth against a top international field at Lahti, Finland, in March.
