I suggested the best and fastest method first.) Either of these could be used to pack the July 28. 1974 Park City Coalition Park City. Utah MOW) Dear Editor: As you may have noticed, the streets and I use that word loosely are not what they could or should be. Anyone driving around Park City comes to this conclusion quite quickly. And if they are here for any period of time, they complain at least to each other and often to our elected or appointed city officials if they are lucky and can find them. I had the opportunity the other day to observe one of our street crews. I think! (If they do exist?) Having remoed road surface for some purpose, they were refilling the nev ly made hole with plain old dirt, which everyone knows will eventually compact and leave a lesser hole. Perhaps that is the approach our city crews use. with the intention of returning and throwing in some asphalt at some later time, if at all. (More than likely not, because there are so many left unfinished. What now is a small thing will rank with the other monster next spring. I have worker! at patching road surfaces and would like to pass along a suggestion or so. I)o the job right the first time. The city should equip its crews with proper fill or Ijase material. Also, if a pneumatic tamper can't lx? worked into the budget, a hand- - fill and to patch material, resulting in a completed job which, in the future, should require very little, if any, at- tention. The Resort roads have been repaired at the Resort's expense because the city hasn't or cant do the job. The explanation has something to do with the city not accepting these streets as its responsibility. I feel the Resort is to be commended for its efforts. At least city funds are not wasted there. Our taxes are collected and distributed, and surely there has to be some allocation for street repairs. This money should be used for tools and materials, not exclusively for payroll: I am not blaming the city crews for a slipshod operation, if they dont have or cant get what they need to do the job right. Rather, I question the Commissioner of City Streets, or whoever is responsible. If there is no such person, perhaps one should be appointed. What I am saying is that someone must be held accountable. 1 plead ignorance on this point ljecause I haven't been able to find anyone who might know . Siiieei ely.
