Show THE PARK CITY Wednesday, April 10, 1974 and Spiro Tunnel. When most of the mining ceased in 19'0. he was employed by a leasor (private operator) for two years. In lii52. Fonce went to work for the 'MPEOPLE Page 6 C01UTM United Park City Company. Mr. Martinez states that most of the mining done since 1971. when the smelters closed throuhout the stae, has been mining development mining done to determine potential yields. Fonce is presently an employee of Park City Ventures and he works a hoist on the Number Three Shaft of the Ontario. The Ontario, devastated by a Tire in the 30s, is being remodeled with steel and cement and should be in operation by April of 1975. Like many who have been around long enough to know, Fonce predicts that rejuvenation of the mining industry will provide the main thrust for Park Citys economic growth. He feels this country hasn't been touched and that there are vast amounts of zinc, lead, and silver yet to be extracted from the surrounding mountains. After his many years as an employee. Mr. Martinez became owner of the Cozy two years ago and he operates it with his son Kichard. Fonce says the rapid changes taking place in town have not affected the Cozy to a large degree in that it has had an established local trade for many years, mostly kids of the old timers. He does feel, however, that although the city is getting crowded the growth has been beneficial. Fonce Martinez is a testament to Park City's past and could very well be a prophet of its future. t .
