Show Wednesday, April 10, 1974 Page THE COALITION CITY PARK Final BICENTENNIAL PROGRAM Connie Andrus and John Sharp of the Park City Historical Society presented the City Council with a general outline of proposed bicentennial projects during the April 4th meeting. The central theme of the bicentennial program is Improve the Quality of Life. There are to be three categories of projects encompassed by the theme. These categories are Heritage, Festival, and Horizon. Tentative heritage projects include a guided or tour of Park Citys historic areas, inself-guide- d cluding the mines, a bulletin board in the Post Office to give notice of town activities, and the establishment of a museum. The construction of a stage in front of City Hall for Labor Day is a suggested festival project. The stage would be utilized by students to present plays which reenact national and local historic events. Other festival activities would be a demonstration of historic trades and crafts and an annual city dance similar to the Muckers Ball of years gone by. Horizon projects are to serve as permanent reminders of the bicentennial observance. The building of a minature China Bridge and a minature Moonlight Bridge in the City Park is scheduled. These structures would be unique playground equipment for children and are to be built by volunteer students and citizens. The erection of a bandstand in the park and the restoration of the City Hall exterior by means of volunteer labor is also proposed. Federal funds will be available to supplement dty money expended on these undertakings. The Historical Society is in the process of attempting to have Park City desginated as a Bicentennial Community. The City Council has voted its full support in the achievement of this goal. The bicentennial program which runs from the present to 1981, will hopefully climax in 1976. An early start on the various projects will facilitate the granting of federal funds through the State Bicentennial Com- mission. Mr. Sharp stated that one of the main objectives of the bicentennial program is to instill pride in our country and our city by involving as many citizens as possible in the projects. The City Council cannot appropriate project money until a detailed cost analysis is submitted and early May was suggested as a target date for completion of this projection. In other council business, a business license was granted to Mr. Michael Kovach of Neat n Tidy and to Mr. Michael Newland and Mr. Gordon Shaw who are leasing the old Handlebar. Ines Fowler, of City and Resort Properties, was also granted a business license. She had previously been denied a license on March 21st due to a question of water usage. motion was passed to grant Thaynes Lode a business license if it can be shown that Thaynes Lode was using water and sewage facilities prior to the February 7th moratorium and upon payment for such usage.
