Show Wednesday, December THE PARK CITY 11, 1374 r COALITION Page 5 H PARK CITY BRIEFS CHAMBER DINNER The Park City Chamber of Commerce held its annual fund raising and membership drive kickoff dinner on Friday, December 6th. The 85 persons in attendance were treated to a ski fashion show as well as dinner cocktails. Guest speakers included Mr. Dick Reynolds of Park West, Mr. Phil Jones, GPCC Director of Resort Operations, Mr. Bruce Morse, head of the Park City Ski and Sports Chib, and Mr. Earl Hansen of the United States Ski Team. POPCORN WAGON AT THE PLAZA With the help of a large crane, the Park City Popcorn Company installed its wagon at the Resort plaza on Tuesday, December 3rd. Owned by Bill Boynton and Roger Haran, P.C.P.C.s 10,000 pound wagon will offer hot dogs, chili, pretzels, Bavarian waffles, soft drinks, coffee, hot chocolate, soft ice cream, andpf course, popcorn. The Park City Popcorn Company anticipates opening in the very near future. NEW STORES IN PARK CITY After an extensive remodeling job, Paris Citys new quick food restaurant, Le Snac , opened Monday, December 10th. Le Snac specializes in sandwiches. With stores in Salt Lake, Provo, and Ogden, The Competition is now also found in Park City. Described by salesman Chuck Stanley as catering to casual dressers, The Competition offers denim-typ- e jackets, pants, and shirts. Although basically d new the store does have a few special items fitting into a moderately priced, casual category. The Com petition is located on Main Street. For their Grand Opening, Wolfes brought in over 20 ski company representatives to explain their particular hardware to customers. Some of the companies represented were: H excel, Lange, Fischer, Kneissel. World Champion Frees tyler John Clendenin was also on hand, apparently signing Other fashions for the season were displayed at the Grand Opening. LESNAC THE COMPETITION high-price- 's, Three Park City School Board Members were honored at the Utah School Board Association Convention, December 4th and 5th in Salt Lake City. Receiving plaques from the School Board Association for their long and distinguished service on the Park City Board of Education were: Faye Dearden 13 years, Violet Terry 14 years, and Jack Green 15 fV"v; r BOARD MEMBERS HONORED i VrVr' years. TOO MUCH OF A GOOD THING Lewis Miller and Tony Ponter sat down at the Robbers Roost at 12 noon on Saturday, December 7th. Their intent was to devour an entire mud pie, the Roosts renowned dessert, before 2 PM. A mud pie weighs 7 lk pounds and consists of 16 servings. Under the watchful eyes of referee (and Roost owner) Terry Jannott, timekeeper Porky Onn, Scorekeeper O.D. McGee, and bathroom monitor Cragg Rodgers, the contestants forked off at a rapid pace. However, despite soaking their feet in hot water, gargling lemon juice and coffee, cleansing themselves with hot towds, and the cheering of two cheerleadersand anienthusiastic crowd, the gluttons could not maintain. THE PARK CITY POPCORN WAGON Mr. Miller had finished eight slices with seven minutes remaining in the contest. With six minutes and 30 seconds left, he was back to zero, due to a disqualifying POPS IN regurgitation. Mr. Ponter finished with 12 showing on the scoreboard good but not good enough. Although the wager agreed upon entitled Mr. Jannott to payment for the pies consumed plus two free dinners from the inflated and indigested individuals involved, he did not claim his due. Instead, Mr. Jannott, at the urging of the crowd, charged nothing for the pie and gave the contestants and the cheerleaders free dinners. In a post-pi- e interview, both Mr. Lewis and Mr. Ponter remarked, Urrrrrrrr- - pp!
