Mayor John Price requested that City Engineer John Probasco in- vestigate and report on the composition of the fluid matter which will flow through Park City Ventures slime line. Mr. Probasco reported the following : Dear Mayor Price: I have reviewed the location of the slime line being installed by Park City Ventures to carry wastes from the mill to lagoons located in Richardson Flat. Calculations by Park City Ventures indicated the line is to carry an average flow of 63 gallons per minute. The water will transport between 300 and 350 tons of solids per day. It is anticipated that 95 of the solids would pass through a number 200 sieve or. in other words, be smaller that 0.06 millimeters in size. An individual particle of this size is invisible or barely visible to the naked eye. The water and waste material is to be transported in a steel pipe having a minimum wall thickness of 0.237 inches. Steel pipe having a wall thickness of this dimension is capable of withstanding a working pressure of 1200 pounds per square inch or 2768 feet. The difference in elevation between the upper end of the pipe and the lower end of the pipe is approximately 1200 feet. Therefore, if for some reason the wall thickness of the pipe was reduced in half, it still would be capable of withstanding suggest excessive sodium. Waters having a high sodium content will have a laxative effect on newcomers and casual users of the water. One evidently becomes acclimated to use of these waters in a relatively short term. The anticipated minerals that are to be in the water are : 0.4 of l lead 0.6 of 1 zinc 10 iron sulphide and iron pyrite Limestone and quartzite The water will contain approximately 300 parts per million calcium sulphate and there should be no detectable amounts of cyanide or arsenic. The water will be totally contained in ponds in Richardson Flats. The material being put into the ponds will soon seal the bottom and prevent any percolation into the ground. Consequently, loss of water from the ponds will be by evaporation only. The Utah State Board of Health has reviewed ABOUT THE COVER HOT AIR BALLOON IN PARK CITY A hot the proposed air balloon belonging to and manned by Glenn McBeth and Stewart Roberts of Salt Lake City visited Park City Tuesday morning, September 17th. Taking off from the cemetary at 8 AM, the balloon floated over Park City for awhile, much to the delight of children walking to school. Having originally planned to appear during the Art Festival weekend, Glenn and Stewart claim to be the first to fly in a hot air balloon in the Park City area. They usually fly down in Salt Lake City, where they often do advertising. Landing near Utah Coal and Lumber, the ballooners promised to return to Park City again soon. discharge line and the method of disposing of the waste material. Monitoring of water course close to the line will be required to determine if any leaks have occurred. After careful review of the anbe to wastes ticipated method discharged, the proposed of disposal and the controls required by the Utah State Board of Health, I am sure that this line will not create a health hazard for the residents of Park City. Yours truly, John Probasco, P.E. the maximum pressure that would be applied to the pipe at the lower section. The pH or the Hydrogen Ion Concentration" of the material is expected to be less than 10.2. The pH of most waters range between 5.5 to 9.0. Waters with a pH below 6.0 can cause excessive corrosion in plumbing systems while waters with a pH above 8.5 1st PLACE $ 100 WOLFES GIFT CERTIFICATE . . . 9 lb. 1 oz.
