The Navy announces new programs pro-grams which reward college training and combination of education ed-ucation and experience with advanced ad-vanced pay grades and higher prestige. For those with 45 or more semester hours, enlistment is authorized in pay grade E-3, a full year ahead of the regular enlistment. For those with the proper combination com-bination of education and experience exper-ience who can Qualify, enlistment may be authorized as high as pay grade E-7 (Chief Petty Officer). Advancement wise, this amounts to an eight year jump over the normal enlistment. Based on the pay raise of January 1973, the regular enlistment en-listment starts at $307.20. These new programs start at $342 and range to $507 plus room and board, paid vacation, medical and educational benefits. Social Security Payments To Those Disabled Before Age 22 1 my i OHEM STATE BANK 185 South State - Under the time and temperature sign Doing the things good neighbors do Under a change in the social security law, monthly benefits can be paid to adults who were , severely disabled before age 22, starting in January, according to Mr. Don Donaldson, social security district manager in Provo. Previously, "childhood disability payments could be made only to qualified adults who were severely disabled before age 18. Monthly payments are made to severely disabled adult sons and daughters of workers getting retirement or disability benefits from social security and of deceased workers whose families get social security survivors benefits. The new law extends the age for qualifying, because people who become severely disabled when youngergenerally haven't had the chance to work long enough unde r social security to get disability benefits on their own work records. If they become be-come able to work their social security payments stop. But if they become severely disabled again within 7 years of the time they became able to work, the new law provides that payments can be resumed. About 13,000 people will be newly eligible for about $14 mil lion a month in benefits under the new law. Social security now pays $30 million a month to 300,000 people 18 and over who were severely disabled in childhood. The social security office is located at 173 East 100 North Street, Provo, Utah. Their hours are 8:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Their telephone number num-ber is: 374-5011, Extension 729L Xmas Trees To Be Picked Up This Week Mr. Leo Ford, Superintendent of Sanitation has announced that Christmas-tree pickup in Orem has begun. He announced that the excess of refuse and bad weather have caused delays in regular garbage collection, but that with additional addi-tional help from someProvoCity equipment, they were back on schedule Wednesday.
